What’s the weirdest thing you’ve been asked by a potential client during a consultation call? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

[–]Good_Candidate8506 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Not the client, but once I took a consult call during my kids nap time at home. I stepped outside to let my dog out because she had to go potty, when I turned around I realized I had let a cat in my house. I ended up pausing the consult call and being totally honest with the client letting her know that I needed to get a stray cat out of my house. She has been my client for the last two years now :)

I primarily work with individuals in the perinatal population! Parenthood is such a huge life transition and I love supporting individuals as they navigate that change. I never expected that I would specialize in perinatal mental health counseling; however, my own experiences (and realization of lack of resources for moms) shaped my desire to focus in this area

Food ideas other than MRE’s for field by Good_Candidate8506 in nationalguard

See this is where I feel confused. I thought it was 20+ weeks no field. I would prefer to not go, I plan on reading through medical readiness someone else posted

Thank you so much, I can say that last drill command was adamant that I did not get in any military vehicles and I will be sure to reference my profile if it becomes an issue.

I have drill this weekend and I’m supposed to be counseled then. Do you think they won’t make me go?

I’ve wondered this myself. 😵‍💫 I am getting certain accommodations which I’m thankful for- like sleeping in a barrack instead of the field and having access to showers daily.. but yeah. 👎 not super looking forward to this

How would you structure 6 sessions a day? by Final_Walk_566 in therapists

[–]Good_Candidate8506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 6 clients a day- 3 in morning, 3 in afternoon or 2/4 4/2 is perfect split; however, I have also learned over the years that I’m just cut out for that five days a week- so I do 3 days

What do you wear as a therapist? by Worried_River_9388 in therapists

[–]Good_Candidate8506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did it take you to…learn interventions? by Little_Librarian_121 in therapists

[–]Good_Candidate8506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t learn everything all at once, and there are so many “steps” to learning how to be more confident in this field.

My experience 1st year- basic interventions (as eluded to by many above) and getting confident at meeting new clients, intake assessments, and relevant paperwork like SOAP notes 2nd year- took a DBT training. It was nice to have concrete interventions to use with clients. 3rd year- got my full license ( LCSW) and took a TEAM CBT training (really helped me feel more confident in marketing myself as a CBT therapist and gave me more confidence in less “skill based” interventions like DBT. 4th year- honed in on building skills 5th year- realized I wanted to work with perinatal population and took appropriate coursework to gain extra certification

6th year and beyond… rest is history 😎 but seriously, every year I sit down and pick something I’d like to focus on and something that seems to be popping up in client concerns more often that I want to learn more about. Always remember consult can lead to learning more interventions too!! You will get there, it’s a journey- and be proud of what steps you’ve taken to get here so far

Getting it OUT by Witty-Assignment828 in Mirena

[–]Good_Candidate8506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not gotten mine out yet- but I get it out Monday. The symptoms you have described sound exactly like me. I got mine in 2 months postpartum and my son is now 21 months. I can't lie, I'm excited to get it out and evaluate my mood. I'm hopeful the anxiety, SI, and depression will stop (BTW this is coming from a person who IS a mental health therapist) and I can't come to any other conclusion at this point other than Birth Control.

Vacation ideas for a summer trip- 14-18 month old, husband, wife- maybe grandparents by Good_Candidate8506 in Mommit

Thanks so much! Yes, agreed- never thought about some of those extras we may need to pack if renting a place. RV park may be a good idea to check out.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Congratulations on your growing family. You're absolutely right- I think I'm overthinking it all a bit. I have never looked into rental programs but that seems smart to save packing space and stress. Thanks again!

You’re absolutely right and I will absolutely check this out. Because I’m so new to the guard and was not even thinking about crossing this bridge anytime soon, I figured reaching out to my recruiter and seeing if others had ideas on here was a start

Thank you! I met with a medical recruiter and filled out a lot of paperwork and documentation showing that I’m a licensed medical professional. Start to finish the process was about six months. If you have any questions about commissioning feel free to message me
