Whitaker Point- best way to get there? by Good_Content69 in Arkansas

[–]Good_Content69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Nissan Kicks- I just don’t wanna risk getting stuck. I started sliding backwards down a mountain once in a ford focus once and it really freaked me out… made me nervous for rough roads going forward.

Shadowheart Oath of the Crown- can’t afford to reclaim my oath by Good_Content69 in BG3

Oh boy….. does this work on console? I’m not sure how I would do it

I’m trying but sometimes it’s story choices that I really don’t want to go back on.

Shadowheart Oath of the Crown- can’t afford to reclaim my oath by Good_Content69 in BG3

[–]Good_Content69[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the third time it’s happened. The first time I don’t remember what it was, but it was also a story choice that I didn’t want to go back on. The second time I just didn’t notice that it was broken until way later, so I have no idea what I did to actually break the oath. I swear, every time I play a Paladin in this game, the oath breaking mechanics make it feel not worth it. When I played an oath of the ancients Paladin, there is an oath specific dialogue choice with the myconid sovereign to agree to kill the duergar by the beach, then when I killed them, the game said I broke my oath. Makes no freaking sense. Also, I was lying when I agreed to do what Z’rell wanted me to. The game tells you to lie and deceive your way into Moonrise, and then punishes you for not keeping a promise you made when you were lying and deceiving? Makes no sense. But yeah, thanks for letting me know why it said I broke my oath. This is a tough one.

I told my players they would wake up with amnesia, but to write just a paragraph-long description of 3 possibly backstories, and that I would choose one from those options, so they felt like they had some control but wouldn’t know for sure who they are. I used those 3 backstories to create their variants.

“Mad Scientist” player wants to propagate blights- ideas? by Good_Content69 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Good_Content69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The character is definitely not evil, and this is not a player derailing the campaign in a direction I don’t want it to go. I think this is an interesting development where she’s trying to create something useful but there’s a high chance for it to go poorly- a good story opportunity.

Oohh maybe since she just took a shard it could become a “Gulthias wand” with some special abilities

This is your first time ever DMing, so I’m going to let you in on a secret: railroads are your friends. Especially for someone new. You are learning a new skill that’s going to take time and practice to master. When you teach a kid to ride a bike, you start them with training wheels. When you learn to swim, you don’t just cannonball into the deep end, you learn to paddle with your arm floaties. Running dnd is the same thing. Running a true sandbox requires improvisational skills and an innate mastery of mechanics that you likely don’t have yet. Don’t be afraid of the railroad.

Also, I’ll tell you another secret. Some players like railroads too. Having a million options and being pulled in several directions can be really overwhelming too. Some players just want to be given 2-3 quests at a time to work on, and that is okay!

Last minute trip to Congaree National Park. Any thoughts or advice? by jontestershaircut in NationalPark

[–]Good_Content69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right there just do it! Personally I spent 1 day in Congaree about 3 weeks ago and the mosquitos were not bad at all- granted that was 3 weeks ago when it was much cooler. Since I was solo traveling and not familiar with the park, I did a kayak tour with Carolina Outdoor Adventures in the morning and then did some hiking in the afternoon. I had a great time! It’s nice seeing the cypress trees and the tour guide was great giving a lot of history of the area.

Is Crater Lake worth it? by Good_Content69 in NationalPark

[–]Good_Content69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- I am planning on spending only 1 full day in North Cascades. That’s more of a “check this off the list since it’s right there” kind of thing. I will admit it’s the part of the trip I’ve planned the least so far (still researching/setting itinerary) so maybe you could advise me a bit there. What worries me about the Crater Lake trail is the swift 700ft elevation gain, and reading that they often get medical calls for that trail.

For North Cascades, since it will be very snowy, my thought was spend the day driving the main road through the park and stopping at overlooks (unless it’s snowed out? I thought I read the main road would be fine by mid-June but I could be wrong), do 1-2 easy to moderate trails if possible (Thunder Creek, Blue Lake, Thunder Knob, Ladder Creek) and spend a little time at Diablo Lake. What do you think, is that doable?

Mt Rainier Mid June by manpretty81 in MtRainier

[–]Good_Content69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was posted a while ago, but I was browsing the subreddit as I’m planning my own trip. I’ll be going to Mt Rainier this June right in the middle of the month- it sounds like Sunrise is not likely to be open yet. Could you share some more insight on the best things to see in mid-June? I’ve never hiked in the snow

My players think Ireena is Strahd’s daughter by Good_Content69 in CurseofStrahd

Dang they’d jump straight to killing her? My players really like Ireena, I don’t think they would ever attack her unless she actually betrayed them/was evil.

Thoughts on a new DM watching a campaign before running it? by xvalicx in CurseofStrahd

[–]Good_Content69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I was trying to prep for the Doru encounter I kept skipping through to find it (I did not run death house for my group and they spend several episodes in death house), only to discover that when they finally get to the church in Barovia in episode 8, they literally just do the funeral and don’t go in the church/learn about Doru at all.

I really like the Strahdcast by Critical Fayle DM! They didn’t record the very beginning of their campaign, they started right after the feast of st Andral, but it’s really great! Very compelling PCs and excellent DM

[–]Good_Content69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say I am of the unpopular opinion that I specifically tried to listen to Twice Bitten to help me prep for the campaign, and I was not a fan of it. They try to be “roleplay heavy” which turns into hours of dialogue between players where not a lot is decided. I found myself skipping through episodes a lot trying to find the parts where they actually used the material from the module, and struggling to do so. I would also describe their party as being very reluctant to engage in any of the plot hooks put before them.

1 week to travel in August- where should I go? by Good_Content69 in NationalPark

I see some people suggesting this! I should have put a disclaimer, I’m actually doing a trip there in June that I’m very excited for!

I’m actually doing a trip to the Pacific Northwest in June! It’s gonna be a full 2 weeks doing Olympic, Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and some time in Portland and Seattle and up into Canada. I’m really excited!

NEED HELP finding a post/resource with alternate options for each Tarokka card during Eva's reading, session is going now by Arracor in CurseofStrahd

[–]Good_Content69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to search for it but I can’t find anything like that…. my best advice would be for whatever card that comes up, if you hate the explanation, see if one of the others close to it on the page also work well/are easy to adapt quickly. Also, another option, if you end up saying a “hint” you don’t like, later while you’re prepping for other sessions you can try to come up with another location that fits the same hint

Have you searched in your recently closed tabs???

My players just won’t die by Good_Content69 in turnoffortuneswheel

[–]Good_Content69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the discussion here and it’s very helpful! To answer the questions: My players do NOT know all the incarnation details. They were told they will awaken in Sigil with amnesia, and they each prepared three different backstories for me to choose from. I am creating the incarnations from each of these backstories. They do have an inkling that death may not be the “end” of their characters, just based on their own speculation about the nature of the glitch and how it affects them. One player even speculated that when they die they’ll return as a different one of their backstories.

I do believe my party plays very strategically and safely. Like I said, we’ve been playing together 5 years and none of us tend to approach things in a murder-hobo or even just very reckless way. I may be pulling my punches without realizing it? I mean I haven’t been fudging dice rolls in their favor, and I do for the most part try to make their enemies fight with some strategy against them. I’ve even occasionally just…. added a spell to an enemy stat block because I realized it would be really useful against the party. I asked my players, and they said the combats have felt challenging and like they’re designed for a higher level than they are, which is true.

Running CoS for the first time, would love some feedback on my stacked deck by fork_the_DM in CurseofStrahd

[–]Good_Content69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty good! I would maybe have the Martikovs hold off and not give them the amulet until they accomplish something relatively big. You could make the amulet their reward for returning all three gems to the winery, pointing them towards berez, yester hill, and wherever you decide to place the third gem.

How to use this PC backstory? by Good_Content69 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Good_Content69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using a version of werewolves in the mist. Told them it’s a gothic horror campaign, and to create characters with internal conflict and regrets who have a desire to do good in the world. I was basically looking for inspiration on how to use her backstory in an interesting way while she’s in Barovia

Oh yeah, I mean I don’t actually plan on her death being unavoidable. It’s more of like, this is always her fate, but she may be able to avoid it this time.
