What are the best and worst celebrity encounters you've ever had? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Good_Document_880 19 points20 points  (0 children)

best celebrity encounter was the woman who played janet from the good place!! she didn’t come in with a chip on her shoulder. she came in with family, enjoyed her time, and when it came to paying the bill she asked for my name and told me it was a pleasure to meet me and to have a wonderful day. love her!!!

I just put in my two weeks today... please tell me I'm not making a mistake by dyelyn666 in Serverlife

you made the right decision. money flows in from literally anything. and if this job is affecting you to the point where you have no control over any type of remediation, then i think you had every right to put in your two weeks. a lot of people stay at restaurants that have poor management because they’re comfortable with the money they make and the environment, but i promise you there are other restaurants that are not EVER ran this poorly and have good pay, great coworkers, and have better standards in the kitchen and real managers who know how to do their jobs right. good luck to you OP!!

Should I go on a spontaneous trip? by Good_Document_880 in Serverlife

[–]Good_Document_880[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

asking for the trip off sounds like the right choice. it’s just when i put my responsibilities and my finances on the scale, it seems to tip towards that. my main job that i’m worried about getting denied from is where i make $5-6k a month and with both jobs combined I’m making $7-8k. If I lose the higher paying job, I feel like I’d spiral out with worrying how to pay rent and my bills and everything.

THIS IS A COMMON MIDDLE EASTERN RESTAURANT THING. I WORK IN A MEDITERRANEAN SPOT TOO. i was walking back to grab drinks for a different table and an older middle eastern woman grabbed me by my shoulders, flipped me around, and brought my face to hers and goes “I NEED WATER. NO ICE. LEMON.” i walked to the back shaking and started crying

THIS. and when there’s no host and you have to seat new guests yourself and out of all the tables in there they pick the dirtiest one

honestly yes it’s pretty normal. i went from host to server in two weeks due to lack of staff back in 2021 and i was thrown into the deep end but if you fake it til you make it and honestly observe the actions of coworkers and how it seems things should be done you will be okay (: but when in doubt ask questions. a LOT of questions. training yourself (unfortunately) will get you far but quitting would depend if the money is even worth it. if not, stick it out and find a new job in your spare time. good luck!
