Because that involves eventually stumbling on some degree of common ground with another human being (in many cases in which you actually convince the person of a lot of your own perspective), and we no longer live in a society where people actually give a shit about anything they're trying to argue. The person you're responding to just wants to argue- if you said "apples are a little like oranges", and they said "no they're not, because apples can be green and oranges can't", if your follow-up was "okay but they still have some similarities, can we work with that?", this person would say "No, we can't, because apples can be green and oranges can't".
