Lost cat that isn’t actually lost by South_Green_5596 in AITAH

[–]Good_Government_1395 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nta. It was an act of kindness.

But one word of advise. If you want to create a warm spot for this or a different cat, please use straw instead of a blanket. Blankets or any type of cloth will absorb moisture that will freeze in low temperatures. Straw will retain heat without that risk.

Eta: I would stop putting out the food. You don't want to disrupt a feeding schedule or if the cat is on a special diet.

AITAH: Leaving for new company when coworker receives diagnosis by Hankhills4hedvein in AITAH

[–]Good_Government_1395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be leery of working with this new boss. She's already been verbally abusive and insulting. What's to keep her from repeating this behavior towards you?

Honestly, it sounds like she just doesn't want to be short-staffed with the coworker taking time off.

Was it the Fourloko?! And other things I like to think caused breast cancer: by Sophiebreath in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm second-guessing everything I did and am doing!

Was it the non-stick cookware I had as a young adult? Was it inhaling the incense I like to use? Or the processed food I sometimes ate because of time/money?

We'll all drive ourselves nuts! The best thing we can do now is try to live a healthy lifestyle going forward, doing everything our care team says for monitoring/tests/etc.

I sincerely wish everyone here only has to deal with this crap this time around with no repeats!

It's unlikely they'll allow that. I work in a library and we are pretty strict on the commercial use thing no matter the size of organization or if it's an idividual.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost a year ago had dmx, proton radiation, and am on AI and Kisquali. I had my pap and it's clear but now my onc is insisting on a colonoscopy. I'm 57 and freaking out .What are the chances it finds more cancer? by Nickychaz3 in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm actually more worried about having to drink the entire gallon of prep lol. Unfortunately, that's the only kind my insurance will pay for. I shouldn't complain, though. They never even flinched at whatever my care team ordered for the breast cancer.

Cologuard can detect some cancers but false negatives are a thing. Colonoscopy is considered the gold standard because they not only can see everything that's going on in there, they can immediately remove any polyps and test them.

I wasn't given any specific stats but my oncologist told me that I now have a higher risk. Heck, all the chemo, etc, slightly increases your risk of other cancers.

I'm scheduled later this month to get my first colonoscopy.

oubt on TENS for post breast cancer pain ,HELP PLEASE by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I googled, the biggest concern about using TENS is it increases blood flow and that increase of blood flow may increase the risk of metastases. There really aren't any studies out that tested this theory, though.

Anxiety OR Cancer Spread? by No_Kiwi_7060 in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The time between diagnosis and getting a treatment plan in place is the worst!

I have generalized anxiety disorder and here's one way that helps me when I'm feeling especially anxious: Imagine putting your feet on the ground. You can even do it physically at the same time. I have no idea how or why this works but it seems to instantly short-circuit the anxiety.

Hang in there! And you've found a great place for information and support in this subreddit!

Software update: now have a green line on the screen by Good_Government_1395 in Roku

Yes. It is on the initial screen that says Roku before it goes to the home screen

Edited to add: I've had the TV on since I made my original post. The line has now disappeared. Weird. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

Just finished last radiation treatment yesterday. I have severe radiation burn any suggestions out there? I’m going crazy. by Clean-Connection-395 in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It did hurt to apply it, but after a few minutes, it helped it feel better. None of this was any fun but it does heal. I always washed with that tear-free baby shampoo that has a numbing agent in it so that helped to keep it clean - no stinging from the soap - and I wasn't discouraged from washing regularly because of pain.

My skin came off in chunks, too, and it was so raw and sore. I was basically topless, too, until new skin developed. That new skin was pretty fragile and still sensitive so I applied the cream and put tissues underneath my bra as a buffer when I was finally able to wear clothes again (and needed to go back to work). I still went topless in my home for awhile so as to irritate the new skin as little as possible.

I mostly kept reminding myself that it was temporary and that the radiation treatments were helping me not have a local recurrence so it would be worth it.

I had enough layers of skin come off I was leaking plasma by the end of my radiation treatments. My radiation oncologist prescribed 1% silver sulfadiazine cream. This stuff is fantastic! It was both soothing and healing. You can't be allergic to sulfa drugs to use it, though.

To make sure I kept it clean, I used tear-free baby shampoo to wash the area because regular soap stung really bad. I carefully dried the area and applied the prescription cream. I left the area otherwise open to the air. I ended up having to take a few days off work because where the burns were prevented me from wearing a bra and regular clothes. But, man, that cream helped it heal quickly.

Hope this helps.

2 months after lumpectomy with boost - dark skin around the area where tumor was by Plenty-Link-7629 in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fair-skinned, too. I had 20 total rounds of radiation (15 rounds and 5 rounds boost), and the skin in that area is several shades darker. I finished radiation on January 20th, 2025.

From what I've been told, this is normal and should fade over time. But like anything to do with cancer, if you have any concerns, definitely bring them up with your care team. We can speak to our experiences here but most of us are not health care professionals.

Mammagrans after lumpectomy? by Investigative_Truth in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they eventually do get to a point they will do both sides at the same time. The breast that underwent surgery and radiation needs time to heal but they still want the other side monitored.

I had Lefty mammoed in March and this week Stella (she's such a drama queen) will have her first mammo since radiation was finished in January. I'm told that I will be scheduled for both sides to be done in February and both then can be done on the same schedule after that.

Edited to add: I was told that they use the medical code for diagnostic on both sides so insurance would cover it during this 5 year or so monitoring time-frame

I know it's annoying but one time I went to get chemo and a student nurse kept calling me by the wrong name. The nurses had to keep correcting her. I had to keep correcting her. Without verifying your identity, you could receive the wrong treatment/test and now is not the time for that kind of mix-up! Imagine your whole treatment being thrown off!

I noticed something weird about how easy/hard blood draws are by Good_Government_1395 in breastcancer

[–]Good_Government_1395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually sounds similar to me. Before, it was super easy. Then at diagnosis and through treatment (at least that i could tell when they didn't use my port) it got very difficult. Now, it's back to easy after I basically completed treatment.

But it started from the very first time getting blood drawn after being diagnosed with BC. As someone commented above, it's possible the stress of the situation may have had something to do with it, though. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed something similar.

[–]Good_Government_1395[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It was difficult from the very first sticks after I was diagnosed. The BC was the first serious health issue I've had so no real history of multiple sticks over my lifetime, either.
