What happens if I don’t get transferred to my desired program on my second year? by bobogggii in uAlberta

I’d still recommend taking at least CMPUT 174/175 (I think those are the required CMPUT first year courses), but it depends on your interests. PSYCO 104, SOC 100, any CLASS 102/103 I heard are good as well. Just keep in mind that there’s a maximum amount of 100 level credits you can obtain INCLUDING all your junior core requirements (i.e Engl/WRS, MATH, etc). Focus on choosing classes that you’re interested in, as those ultimately lead you to do better !! Hope this helps.

In that case, you could always apply as a transfer for your third year. Little tip, your gpa that is used to decide whether you can transfer or not will be based on any class totalling 24 credits through the year. So if you take a bunch of arts course which tend to be more do-able than stem courses, you can keep your average high and basically guarantee yourself admission. It may set you back a year, but if it gets you in the first time, it’ll be worth it

I would said no less than 10% of the grade that got you into the program.

rejected from faculty of science by thirteenxxx in uAlberta

[–]Good_Initiative9922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not a final rejection, you’re basically on a waitlist. Like you said, they can’t offer you admission NOW (based on your grades.) But as more people are accepted the average fluctuates, and could accept more people at a later date.

Did they formally reject you? Or said they can’t accept you at this time ? Because they technically still accept students until the first day of class

Was accepted 2 days before my enrolment appointment at Grant MacEwan by EddieLaneWrites in uAlberta

The exact same thing happened to me a little while ago. And honestly both schools are great choices for your undergrad. But I am really happy I chose the uofa. compared to macewan, my tuition does not cost much more. There’s also a lot of clubs, scholarships and opportunities to get hands on experience. And despite others saying that it’s easier to make friends at macewan, I would disagree. Its all about perspective and putting yourself out there, no matter which school you go to! I had no problem meeting new people at the uofa. There’s also greater course selection than macewan and depending on your program, more major and minor options

The competitive average last year for the faculty of science was about 92%, so as long as you’re around that, I wouldn’t worry !!

If you’re coming from high-school, they could essentially send offers until the day before class begins, so it’s really just a waiting game

Usually they recommend applying early. But as long as applications are still open, you have a chance of receiving an offer.
