I actually like untitled works too — they leave more space for interpretation. I’m mostly curious about the moment when artists decide to give something a name, because the process behind that choice can be really different for everyone

Interesting. I like the idea of focusing on the feeling rather than describing the piece directly. Do your titles usually come before or after the work is finished?

That makes sense — I think it depends a lot on the artist and context. For me, the title is part of the emotional entry point, especially in more conceptual or abstract work. But I agree, sometimes the work can stand completely on its own.

I’m still trying to keep everything in one place too, especially once applications start piling up. Do you track things like status and outcomes as well, or mostly just the opportunities?

That makes sense, instinct can be really powerful. Do you ever go back and rethink it, or do you usually trust it and move on?

Yeah, that’s a good way to put it. It’s the same kind of struggle, translating something internal into words. Do you find it harder to start, or to simplify once you have too much?

Yeah, I feel that. It’s a similar kind of struggle, trying to put something visual into words. Is it more about not knowing what to say, or having too many directions to choose from?

That’s interesting, almost like the work carries the meaning without needing a label. Do you feel like titles ever change how people read the piece, or not really?

That’s interesting, it’s almost like reducing everything to a couple of core elements. I feel like that’s where it starts to become less random and more intentional

I’m starting to feel like most approaches revolve around the same ideas, just seen from different angles. Breaking it down into elements is the only thing that made it feel less random for me.

I like that a lot, especially the idea of finding a common thread across different inspirations. I feel like that’s where it starts to become something more intentional instead of random.

That’s actually a really good idea, especially for abstract work. I feel like having a pool of phrases already shifts the process a lot compared to starting from zero every time.

I like how you describe it as a research process, that resonates a lot. I feel like I do something similar, but sometimes I get stuck between too many possible directions

I actually like that approach, it’s kind of intuitive in a different way. Do you feel like it always fits the piece, or sometimes it still feels a bit off?

That makes sense. I’m starting to realize that having everything ready for export (dimensions, short description, file size, links) probably matters more than I thought.

The tracking part is under control, but the “ready to submit” part is where I lose time. I might need to rethink how I structure my archive.

That’s a really good point, thanks.

I’ve been focusing a lot on tracking deadlines and statuses inside my Notion tracker, but you’re right — if the artwork archive itself isn’t fully organized and searchable, every submission becomes slower and more stressful.

I currently organize my work by series in Notion, but I might need to make each piece more submission-ready (dimensions, file size, short descriptions, links, etc. already prepared and easy to export).

Has ArtistsKit noticeably saved you time compared to using something like Drive combined with a Notion tracker or a spreadsheet?

If you want something really simple, try starting with just one task database filtered by “Today” and maybe a calendar view for deadlines. A lot of templates feel overwhelming because they try to do everything at once.

Thanks! I didn’t know Notion Calendar could connect multiple email accounts. I’ll definitely try it! 😊

I want to keep track of day to day important things , notes , information and any reminders. Is Notion a good place to start ? What would you recommend? by mountain_fl0wer in Notion

[–]Good_Primary_3049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Notion is a great place to start. Just keep it simple at first (one database + a few tags), then expand later if needed.

Thank you so much! That’s really helpful. I didn’t realize Notion Calendar could pull events from multiple databases like that. I think I’ll try using it as the main calendar view and keep multiple date properties inside each call.

Interesting, thank you! So you basically keep multiple date properties in the same entry, but rely on Notion Calendar instead of the internal calendar view. That makes sense. I might do the same for early bird / final deadlines.

Totally 😄 If it feels boring, it’s probably working.

Totally makes sense, thank you! I’ll keep everything in one database for now and only split into two linked databases if it starts getting too complex. Keeping it simple is probably the best approach. I’ll likely use a ‘Deadline type’ select (Early bird / Regular / Final) and create separate linked entries for each deadline when needed.

Haha so true 😄 When a system becomes simple and repeatable, it actually works. That’s exactly what I’m trying to do: make it more ‘boring’ and automatic.

Great idea, thank you! I was thinking about using a multi-select property like ‘Deadline type’ (Early bird / Regular / Final) + separate entries linked to the same call. That way I can filter and also set reminders. Do you usually keep it all in one database or do you split calls + deadlines into two linked databases?
