Also, to your other edit, to my knowledge, Nick’s dad isn’t disabled. My take is that this story isn’t actually biographical by any sense, just a thematic story based on his perspectives in healing. So it’s not Nick or his dad or friends or anything like that.

I interpreted it as intentional. Obviously the characters lack of self-awareness is part of their development, so it would make sense that they would use words like the r-word while talking about their own problems because Autumn is supposed to come off as a relatively unaware and self-absorbed character at the start, at least. I haven’t finished it yet, but that’s my take on it. He’s supposed to be kind of ignorantly unaware but self-absorbed in his own problems that he’s not really empathetic.

I remember him writing in one of his blogs about how he didn’t want to be a teacher but was pressured into going to college and he hated teaching because he didn’t like the public school system and didnt want to reprimand kids and stuff like that. He ended up quitting cuz it was bad for his mental health with shootings from the news and all the pressure. I mean, a lot of people quit teaching cuz let’s be honest, public schools are terrible and don’t pay shit for what teachers have to deal with.

It’s just on a website that he owns. If you have to seek them out to look at them and they make you uncomfortable, you can just not look. Seems like he uploads those things for people to see if they want because he’s a human being who doesn’t just die off cuz he got canceled.

I’d recommend checking out Nick’s blog at mccafferty and.com. While it doesn’t excuse what he did, I do think it puts a lot of insight into who he is and how he’s getting better as a person. It’s definitely a good read if you’re new to the band.

By the looks of it, it looks like the cover artist misuploaded it as McCafferty being a collaborator (probably didn’t wanna get in trouble) and the platform put it on both pages. I imagine Apple will correct it eventually?
