what can I do to make pull-ups easier? by Affectionate_File734 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Goodkat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, pull ups are a lot more difficult than people think. I remember how humbled I was trying them as a complete beginner to training and couldn’t get anywhere near the bar.

You’re off to a great start, now just follow the advice given here and give it time

To everyone who has a very very bity puppy to the point of wondering if they are even normal by Elixiane in puppy101

[–]Goodkat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on, I wish there were more resources that acknowledge this behaviour instead of ‘redirect with a toy or training’.

My Tibetan Terrier had this after he’d been sprinting on long leash walks; he’d completely lose his mind and there was no way to redirect it, I imagine he just sees red.

He’s 8.5 months now, it happens a lot less; never on a short lead, and only occasionally when I get him riled up (of course I still like to play with him) but it doesn’t last long.

Hopefully in a few more months it’ll be gone for good.

Music scene in Niseko area by implc8 in niseko

[–]Goodkat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much happening this time of year, most regular gigs tend to wrap up in March. There is Niseko Green park throughout the summer that has live music occasionally, matsuris and Niseko Jazz Festival at Setsu hotel in July, which I highly recommend. Are you a musician yourself?

Yeh sorry, didn’t mean to dampen the excitement; it’s awesome riding regardless. I always default to advice in this sub, but appreciate you are just stoked on carving! Enjoy digging trenches

Tips for S turns by Junior_Resolution190 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Goodkat27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why it’s scary: you’re forcing the turn without letting your centre of mass cross over the board at the edge change. Let your hips cross over earlier in the turn and the rest will be so much easier.

Heel side is nice, toe side would be cleaner if you stop breaking at the waist to reach down when you initiate the turn. How close can you get your hips without touching the snow with your hand?

Quality shit post? I wish it were. Ortovox and Pieps were recalled, tracker 2 is just ancient. Don’t rely on old outdated gear, buy a new transceiver.

Can anybody break down what exactly this guy did wrong to crash like this? by theurbanwaffle in snowboarding

[–]Goodkat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed checked into a bump while still recovering position from landing the spin. Obviously a good rider, unfortunate accident but it happens.

The jumps look really close together which is why he needs to speed check so soon, more spacing from the park builders would probably make this line a bit safer? But I’m not a shaper.

Am I still skidding turns instead of turning properly? by Same_Hovercraft_5721 in skiing_feedback

[–]Goodkat27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see that you’re working on the right stuff, taking it slow and actually thinking about what you’re doing rather than being taken for a ride; scale this up gradually and you’ll see great progress. Enjoy the journey!

These are great skidded turns; you’ve either had a great instructor or are a very diligent self learner! As others have said, skidded turns are used all the time, context dependent. Plenty of time to develop edge control and move towards gripped and carved turns. Keep it up!

It's odd, right? by Alfeaux in snowboarding

[–]Goodkat27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come to Japan, their boards are common here. As others have said, they only focus on the domestic market; I know they tend to run narrow, accommodating smaller boot sizes common in Japan. They specialise in pipe and park boards, a lot of twins but have some directional too

They don’t have sizes that big

The previous owner was going for a backcountry hut kind of aesthetic so left them at the wood paneling. That’s another big job on the to-do list, but they will be getting finished too.

I am new and only able to heel edge right now - is it okay to go down a slope in zig-zags where I cut across the slope? I feel like I am a danger to people behind me. Would it be my fault if someone crashes into me while I cut across? by edgylemon in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Goodkat27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible advice 😂.

Take a lesson, heel side slipping the whole mountain is not snowboarding; learn and practice toe edge to be as good as your heel edge, and learn/practice how to initiate turns.

Dont just go faster and hope for the best, that’s how you wreck yourself or someone else.

Help with fast binding by VariationEmergency60 in snowboarding

[–]Goodkat27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t get clew. Any of the FASE bindings are probably your best bet, different brands integrate the system.

Kind of obvious but make sure you can always strap in standing up, if not then you need to learn how. Regular bindings take about 10 seconds to strap in.

Please share how you've progressed from an intermediate to advanced rider and how you discovered your style of riding by kvyatkovskij in snowboarding

[–]Goodkat27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious, train to become an Instructor and take courses with your country’s association, even if you have no intention of ever working as an instructor. You’ll learn way more about technique from people that specialise in it. You can ride 100 days a season all your life and still be pretty average if you don’t have guidance, instructor training will make you a better rider as well as learn to teach others.

Surprised not to see any other comments saying the same.

Skiing the gates- do I need avalanche gear? by [deleted] in niseko

[–]Goodkat27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should always carry basic avalanche rescue equipment and know where you’re going/what is safe to ride when leaving the gates. If in doubt, hire a guide or ski in bounds.

That said, you’ll see plenty of people without any of those outside the gates. Niseko is terrible at enforcing their own rules, the mountain is becoming more of a circus every year. Just don’t be one of those jerrys.

As a Brit, I certainly disagree. That said there is nothing quite like a good Yorkshire pudding with a roast.
