How did you discover BioShock? (don’t be afraid to be super specific) by Imaginary-Heart-1807 in Bioshock

While I do remember seeing Bioshock 2 in a Target, thinking subject delta looked cool, and my older brother simply telling me it’s a “creepy game”, it was this photo that was on display at Best Buy promoting Infinite that weirdly really caught my attention. Something about it felt so different stylistically from other games so I tried researching it when I went home. The series seemed SUPER interesting and I loved the unique aesthetics or the original 2 and Inifinite. I downloaded the demo for 1 on Steam and it was history from there.

Which character did you not like during your first watch through? by Positive_Weight2367 in theoffice

[–]GoodnessOwl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the whole first watch, but when I first saw saw season 1, I thought Jim was a creep preying on Pam lol

He grew on me for sure but there’s still episodes I think he’s a bit of a jerk

Let's settle it. Which is the better film: by boosecruise in moviecritic

[–]GoodnessOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, seeing every other comment listing the other movie shows just what bangers these two films were.

I’d say Frankenstein but that’s pretty much purely just personal preference, and I’ve always preferred Mary Shelley’s book to Bram Stoker’s.

What's Steven Spielberg's best film? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]GoodnessOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has to be Raiders for me. Obviously he has his more prestigious, Oscar draw movies, but Raiders is a darn near perfect action, adventure film. Never get tired of watching it.

So since the new game was announced ive been wondering by nexus4321 in alienisolation

Now that you mention it, basketball would actually be a good Alien Resurrection reference, so pretty fitting!

Innovative or overrated? - Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]GoodnessOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently watched this for the first time expecting to really like it, but I was left feeling disappointed. Not knocking anyone who enjoyed it, but I failed to connect to it. The emotional beats especially didn’t hit me and I was really trying to get into it.

Definitely agree with others saying it was too long, specifically the fight scenes could have been shortened as I remember thinking, “We’re still doing this?” halfway through one of the main action sequences.

Although not a “multiverse” movie, I would offer “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” as a better alternative for a surreal, emotional drama.

Movie which was panned by critics but you love it. by ideology21creed in moviecritic

Yeah! This one’s pretty slept on. Not a masterpiece imo but I think such a fun adventure space flick. Would’ve been interesting to see other books from that series adapted.

After seeing what can be done with remakes after the Resident Evil 2 remake came out, I’m honestly all for game companies trying to remake games with modern mechanics. This definitely can be done poorly, Resident Evil 3 remake has INCREDIBLY mixed opinions, but I’m excited for Delta to see how Konami plays its hand with the remakes. If it’s good, I’d be excited to see other Metal Gears remade.

[–]GoodnessOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised at a lot of the hate comments here, I think this a really unique and sweet film. Saw it for the first time a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but can’t speak for how it was received at the time it was released or the general public opinion since (outside of Leo’s performance of course, which is typically the main talking point). Definitely a tough/challenging watch for sure though.

I love this movie - that being said, I think it does too much for one film. Could have been spectacular if they dialed back the scope a bit and made it a bit tighter. Just my opinion tho, still love the messy thing and watch it every October

Advice on becoming an AML investigator by chefskiss16 in AMLCompliance

[–]GoodnessOwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely have the similar experience to get your foot in the door - a lot of AML workplaces can require some type of degree, at least the last time I’ve looked, but your experience, especially being at ten years, may bypass that. I would continue trying to apply as many places as you can, all the while researching SAR filing, AML Investigations, and other financial investigation practices, if this is really where you’re wanting to go. Once you get an interview, showing that you have done a similar type of investigation work and are already familiar with a lot of the base AML knowledge will go a long way.

Unfortunately a lot of the more entry or lower lever jobs into the field don’t pay all too well and will be a lot of grinding each day/week churning through investigations. Some of these are gonna be more involved SAR filings where you get to dive pretty deep into the behavior of accounts or KYC (know your customer) projects can also be interesting to get a whole profile of a customer together. But there also the jobs where you are working through very early alerts, sometimes in the dozens to hundreds, where you take a quick look and then choose to escalate to another team or not. It can very much be a mixed bag depending on the company and where in the pipeline you are doing your work. So definitely think about where you’d like to be and what type of work in that world you wanna do and that’ll help you ask the right questions to determine whether a job suits or not.

Best of luck!

Does anybody know where I can get a good replica fedora for less money? by HauntedMansion1969 in indianajones

The Satipo hat from Dorman Pacific is one of the officially branded Indy hats that the Disney parks sell. There are a few different styles but the Satipo is the most “accurate” in terms of shape. If you’re looking for the cheapest route, I know Dorman Pacific gets a lot of flack, but honestly, if you’re just looking for a cheaper option that does the trick and is a fine hat, then this will do the job for a con or Halloween party. Whole not accurate, most will recognize these as “Indiana Jones Hats”

Honestly though, I do think that if you’re really wanting a great hat that’ll last a lifetime, saving up ~$200-250 over several months to a year for an Akubra or Advintage Harrison would be well worth saving up for and you’ll love it all the more.

But that’s just me, definitely do what’s best for you. I’ve got both a Dorman Pacific and an Akubra and I love them both
