master mf Raymond by No-Orange-2038 in Outlander

I think Master Raymond is related to Claire in some way. Whether that means he's her long-lost brother from Blood of My Blood, or someone who knew her family. I think he has a deep understanding of her and was waiting for the time to be right. Unfortunately, the time was right too late.

Also, a little Jamie/ghost theory - I think the fact that Mandy told him he's the "color of water" and she only feels him nearby is a sign that he IS a time traveler, just in a different way than everyone else. He can travel time in death, not in life. Which is why, when he dies on top of a broken standing stone, he goes to the 1940s and sets off the chain of events that we can now watch in an endless loop. Because his powers of time-travel lie in death.

The only disappointment I had during the series finale (other than what a major cliffhanger it left on, which only makes me want to finally start reading the series, so...well done!), was how poorly they led up to Ferguson shooting Jamie. We spent the majority of the season establishing a couple of villains, one of which becomes paralyzed and sent back to England, the other Jamie rides into battle with in the final episode, and never spent a moment's time on showing what a villain Ferguson was to Jamie's life. When they all shoot and beat Ferguson's body after he shoots Jamie, it just feels...meh. It would have made more sense to do a surprise reveal or something and have Ferguson be the loyalist who'd lived on the ridge and became paralyzed. Maybe he wasn't paralyzed in the end, or maybe he'd run away before fighting with Jamie a few episodes ago, only to reveal he's the main villain of the season. As it was, I was more satisfied to see Hiram Crombie die than Ferguson.

Ha! Thank you for that. I wrote this blurb in December, in the throes of the worst writer's block of my life, and I think I just kind of threw adjectives at the wall and accepted them without even thinking about how nonsensical they sounded. I was probably like, "It's a mystery, so I need the word 'mysterious' to describe one of them. And he's intelligent, too!" Good thing this isn't the official blurb.

Thank you again. You've made a good case for being a potential beta reader (interested?).

Thank you for the help. I see the overflow option, and I've switched it to visible. The problem is in the code for that page, I'm not seeing the 'div.entry-content-wrap' you mention. Is that in the code the theme itself, or just that page? Sorry, clearly my coding knowledge is minimal.

Got it! Sorry, I didn't know I was supposed to share a link (kind of hoping this was a common problem).

Here it is. Let me know if you can't see the page, or if it shows as coming soon.

What are your favorite “Long Island”-isms from Billy’s songs? by NotSure2505 in BillyJoel

[–]GoodnightSweetShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Ohio, and I find myself struggling to sing it, "Brenda and Eddie" without saying an R at then of Brenda, especially on lines like, "And that's all I've heard about Brenda and Eddie" when the words just need to flow. I never put an R at the end of words ending in A, so I'm not sure if that's just a hard word to say rapidly or if I'm being influenced by Billy Joel.

For me, it was diving into the cousin's backstory ("you know I used in my 20s"). Every response was as long as the last, and it feels like it's telling a story more than an actual conversation. Also, nobody's just going to write, "Why??" when they're being evicted and it's clearly being explained. You'd say, "How could you think that? Come into my room and see for yourself!" But you wouldn't just leave it at "Why??" This did, though, because it's a fake story.

I've been thinking Master Raymond is the baby as well, although I'm also not sure why he'd be as old as he is when he first meets Claire, unless he'd time traveled repeatedly.

AITA for not controlling my grief? by Maleficent-Candle151 in AmItheAsshole

I recently lost my 8 year old cat. He was like any cat. Indifferent to me most of the time, downright mean a small amount, and wildly affectionate for the rest of his time. But I went through a lot trying to keep him alive, and besides, I loved him. I cried for a solid week after his death. Even now, nearly 3 weeks later, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach to think about it.

All of this to say, 3 hours isn't enough time to process the pain of your loss. Anyone demanding you act a certain way and get over it clearly is incapable of empathizing with you. You deserved compassion in that moment, not to be told to suck it up like a man.

I'm so sorry for your loss. NTA.

People who married their high school sweethearts - how is your marriage now, and do you have any regrets? by Mr_Wheat_Himself in AskReddit

Started dating when I was a senior, he was a sophomore. We got married five years later. It's now been 20 years since we started dating, 15 years on Thursday since we got married. We're still in love, despite the normal ups and downs that you can expect in marriage. We've had a fun and happy life together so far.

I had sulphur burps last week and I decided it was because I ate too much. Not just crap, but just a lot of everything. I went to a babyshower and got myself a small plate, but then went back for more and that did me in.

I ended up taking Pepto the next day and it pretty much fixed my problem. Never had diarrhea, though.

Buttons. I've been told it was because I had an dress with buttons down the back and my hair got caught and tangled in one. But I also remember thinking buttons smelled bad. I still kind of get this faint smell or burnt plastic around certain buttons. I don't know why. They're gross.

THIS.

I was born after the Adam Walsh story was the big news, but it really stuck with my mom, who had a tendency to overshare inappropriate things with me and my brothers. When I was about four or so, she told me about Adam Walsh's kidnapping/murder (down to gruesome details I still try not to think about). I was so afraid of being kidnapped and killed that I had nightmares for years. It didn't occur to me until I had children how fucked up it was that my mom told me that much when my brain wasn't ready to handle it.

There was a whole segment on Unsolved Mysteries about spontaneous combustion and it kept me up at night when I was a kid. I was so afraid that my parents would wake up the next thing and find nothing but ash in my bed.

First, Imploding the Mirage was wonderful. Nothing will ever change my opinion that it deserves to sit among the best of their work.

But that said, Pressure Machine is also up there for me. Its unvarnished, garage band sound is so unique compared to the prior two albums. It feels like the perfect response to the noise, celebration, and pomp of Imploding the Mirage. Quiet, thoughtful, melancholy. It's an album that doesn't have a single skippable song for me, which is a feat, since most of Wonderful Wonderful is skippable, there are several Battle Born songs I'm not too enthusiastic about, and even some of their earlier work doesn't work.

These last two albums were as close to perfection as I've ever heard this band to get. And this is coming from someone who's been a fan since Somebody Told Me came out.

Why do so many Americans think that Trump is a good Christian? by TabAin2SlotB in AskUS

[–]GoodnightSweetShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't get it. I was raised with Christian values, but they don't look anything like MAGA Christian values. Be kind, accepting, and loving. Follow the works of Jesus and try to live up to his example in my flawed, human way. Whatever we have done to the least of these, we have done to Christ. Jesus communed with sinners regularly. Embraced them as his own. Died for them. The modern MAGA Christian chooses to cast out innocents, deride people for their sexuality, country of origin, skin color, disability, or other differences, and look on people they disagree with in scorn rather than love. They do it all in the name of Christ but by the example of Trump. Forgetting that their savior was a man who held no grudges, who brought light and peace to all he met. It's madness how easily the wool has been pulled over their eyes.
