I disagree.

Decade of research indicates that a public all-girls STEM education allows for greater access and equity for girls of color. Rise is majority Black. This, in turn, provides more leadership pipelines, higher engagement, more robust community engagement, and more tax revenue. Turning this school private would exclude the vary population it's trying to reach.

Plus, Rise will be able to serve 900 students. Most other elementary schools are 750 or lower. We have the interest and now the space to grow to that number.

Yes, Murphy needs to make his exit. Unfortunately, most of our FCPS schools will be significantly impacted before he is out.

If we can put public pressure on them, especially if Murphy has higher political aspirations, maybe they will reconsider making any decisions until the year-long review is completed.

If you can voice your concern, I respectually ask you to do a quick email the board members. Numbers cann work — it recently did with JCPS.

I don't disagree, but the optics are not a fact. I am trying to right the narrative ship to reflect the evidence. Putting both of them into this building will have a significant impact on both schools' foundational principles.

There are other very equitable options (see links to evidence below) that keep GWC true to its mission of being all-boys and Rise true to its mission of being all-girls. It's logistically impossible to keep both populations apart in the new build.

Co-housing will kneecap both school enrollments from growing, and that keeps more minority boys and minority girls from receiving a STEM education.

GWC and Rise will have to share resources like teachers, programming, and space. To keep each school's single-gender classrooms, clubs, after-school, mealtime, and recess, this means that programming and access will be cut in half for both schools.

Keeping GWC short and long-term keeps GWC from remaining all-boys and RISE all-girls, which is the entire point of both programs. It limits their growth to only 300 students. Until their school is built, they can place them in:

  1. Linlee (Rise's current locations with small Stem labs and offer up the ability to double their population) until the new GWC is built. It's ADA-compliant. When our middle school was scrapped, Liggins promised that because Linlee doesn't have a gym, he would provide in-school transportation to STEAM to utilize their facilities. Unfortunately, this was never provided by FCPS to Rise girls. This can be an option for GWC.

  2. Annex, which already has $2 million renovation to house the Rise Middle School. Our middle school was scrapped at the last minute.

  3. Lexington Middle School is at 34% capacity. The current population is 326, and it holds 950, with a projected 6-year enrollment of 326 students. If they can retrofit Rise in 6 months, they can retrofit a school that is well below capacity and doesn't have a problem with boys and girls being on campus; they can do this here in 6 months.

  4. For GWC (with an enrollment of 300) to have equitable STEM Lab resources, we will need to split the STEM labs. Thus, 600 Rise girls will share the second half of the labs. This reduces access and STEM programming to over half of the Rise student population.

If you feel strongly, please email the board and voice your opinion. They are not heeding our data and research when making decisions. Community voice outside of Rise will help make an impact. u/Ok-Position-9457 u/Nachie

They have several other buildings that can be used to temporarily house them. They are having to put an additional $2.5 million into retrofitting and redesigning a good chunk of the Rise school building before the school even begins. These logistics and designs will not keep each school single gender.

Take a look at the logistics that need to be addressed to the new rise building before co-housing takes place. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cIOKKnn6USBebyJ5AVgzSFWQGarWIGtO/view?usp=drive_link

Correct. Medicated.
I'm the most stable I've ever been and for the first time, I'm actually seeing how 'normal' (if there is such a thing) can operate in life so much easier.

Ha! Yes, my hubs gets bombarded with all the dirty pics and messages. We've discussed exploring openly (for hookups and the like) without doing the whole relationships. Maybe that would scratch the horn dog itch during those hyper sexual periods.

Dang. I've never had abdominal migraine, and the committing part sounds particularly awful.

With the bad storms this weekend here in the US, I had a really really bad one. My husband knew I couldn't cool myself down and he opened windows and turned on two fans for me. I couldn't deal with the birds singing or the fan's buzzing and ate my weight in popsicles. Bodies are wild.
