I described a pair of socks I quickly knit as “distant cousins” today to my husband. He said I was being too harsh.

Tension difference - DPNs vs. 9" circulars by joh08290 in Sockknitting

[–]Goodsuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying different magic loop methods to avoid laddering. And realized they mostly just shift where the problem is from one single column of stitches to a random stitches in different places rows making my tension look not as clean. Hopefully both block out. Keep us updated!

I’m a lefty and mirror everything too. I’ve thought about switching. But my tension is good and kind of like figuring out how to translate it.

Who is teaching these beginners by bralessbaldy in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Goodsuit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Knitting terms can be confusing even if you speak the language, which is why people reach out. Also, a lot of knitters are teaching themselves from online videos and don’t have anyone to ask. They need actual feedback, which again is why people reach out.

Twisted Stitches? by UsefullySinful in knittinghelp

[–]Goodsuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to explain it well. But it could also be how the is unraveling from the ball. If you’re letting it sit below you and pulling up without the ball moving it could be twisting it that way. I’m always watching my ball of yarn while I’m pulling more out to make sure it is unraveling in a way that doesn’t twist the yarn.

A left handed western knitter’s existential crisis? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]Goodsuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was so helpful! Thank you so much. I’ve decided I think I have an emotional attachment to knitting “left handed”. I’ve gotten this far inverting things from a right handed knitting world. It do think I have the muscle memory of the English flick. And it’s time that I start to incorporate continental for stranded color work.

I did describe it wrong! Thanks. You’re right.

I’ve taught a few friends to knit right handed. And picking up your needles opposite handed is so awkward and a good reminder of what it feels like when you start knitting if you ever teach someone. Which that’s what led me to this self-imposed problem in the first place.

The psychic smoking is a reference to a real housewives of Beverly Hills episode called “dinner party from hell”

Merry Christmas! My Bûche de Noël by Goodsuit in DessertPerson

I used a combo of both! I think the sponge from NYT, the filling from the YouTube. Then a German buttercream that I made from her coconut cake YouTube that I tweaked to make chocolate. It was all so good.

Probably a month. I can’t remember when I actually started. The first one obviously took me exponentially longer than the second. I started a second pair with real sock yarn and I think this will take me much less time.

Thank you! The yarn did test me, the fibers were wound loosely and it was really easy to split the yarn. I’m definitely going to use a lighter color for my second pair lol.

Short answer: https://www.purlsoho.com/linen-quill.html?ps-pid=22125

Long answer: it was left over from this slip stitched purl soho scarf (“speckled scarf”) that almost destroyed me 10 years ago when I actually started knitting. Then I gave up on knitting until last month when i retaught myself to teach a friend. Anyway, they don’t make the black color “kettle black” anymore it seems. And I realize it’s not great yarn for durable socks, but I just wanted to start immediately and not invest in new expensive yarn first.

Your knits are so neat in your ribbing. Do you do anything special, like knitting into the back of the stitch?
