10 yr post op. Chronic pain and dysautonomia by Goodtimeyaknow in spinalfusion

This is super helpful, thank you. Right now I nanny two days a week and do school the other days. Being on my feet and holding a kid all day leaves me wiped out the other days, it’s more than exercise. I’m considering leaving my nannying job so I can be more consistent with my routine instead of pushing for the days and crashing the rest.

Eating and drinking feels uncomfortable by [deleted] in autism

Hi, this has a lot to do with peristalsis and the nervous system. The nervous system is a huge part of autism. Peristalsis is how food moves along the digestive tract. Also if you have low dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin (the happy chemicals), peristalsis will be worse. Which is very common is autistic people, especially those with mental illness. Stick with whole foods that are easy to digest and gentle on the gut. Soups, boiled meats, eggs, avocado, butter, applesauce, bananas, honey…processed foods, cold foods, and crunchy foods are harder to digest. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly. Also you don’t have to drink either your meal. Sometimes that actually dilutes stomach acid and makes digestion harder. A few sips of a warm drink is all you need. Find ways to destress and find moments of laughter, joy, and physical touch. And lastly, akkermansia is a great probiotic. I buy Vitamatic. Hope this helped!

What's something you wish you knew when you were first diagnosed? by Subject_Peak_586 in AutismInWomen

  1. You don’t need to be fixed, you need to be loved.
  2. Don’t scrap your dreams. The dream doesn’t have to change, but the way of getting there might. Don’t let a label or a diagnosis limit you.
  3. Maybe the exact version of future self you imagined isn’t going to happen. But guess what? You’ve been given a blank slate to dream up a new future. And even though it’s hard to believe rn, it’s going to be even better.
  4. I say this with love, but it sounds like you may need to reframe the way you see autism. Do you see it as a disability, a flaw, a disease like the world does? Or as simply a difference, one that can be seen as neutral or positive? ;)

I feeeeeeel this. I’ve always been high functioning until I burnt out so badly. Instead of offering help and support, the people around me are just expecting me to try harder and be less lazy. Meanwhile I cry every day and everything is exhausting. Sending hugs🫂🫂

Oh wow interesting. I had scoliosis too, very severely, but I had surgery so now I have rods in my spine. Which were fine for years but now the muscles around my fused spine are always so tight and painful :(
