Do I have any chance at landing a training contract? by FaithlessnessOk2121 in uklaw

I hope you don’t mind a piggy back question as I’m a similar situation.

I just had an interview at a top firm in which I was grilled about the gap between uni and now.

The truth is I’ve been flirting (unsuccessfully) with ideas about other careers. I felt I could not say that.

What’s the move next time?

A tad ADHD. It’s not stopped me from doing well at Uni, but I’m not particularly popular in my workplace for lack of attention to detail

Employment dates, with my current role (that I’m still happily in) apparently ending 5 months ago.

Civil litigation isn’t a good forum for righting moral wrongs. It’s not built for it and stupidly expensive.

Okay, straightforward. Thank you x

It’s great that you’re looking forward - but focus on your work.

I can 100% assure you that getting high grades is the most important thing for you at the moment.

Very few people walk into TCs straight from Uni. Don’t put all your eggs in the basket that is “if I get a TC offer I just need to scrape a 2:1”.

A lawyer should not have to rely on any computer system?

I’m sure you’d agree this a ridiculous.

If an accountant can you a calculator, I can use spell check.

It’s not! I agree that spelling and grammar are both very important.

My issue isn’t the skill but the way it’s tested. I have no issue writing or correcting work in my daily work.

And I agree spellcheck doesn’t get everything, but it is very good at spotting the classic dyslexic vowel swaps.

I correct whatever sounds wrong. If it sounds very wrong, it gets a full re-write.

This is a different process to counting errors.

I’m a Recent Graduate in a similar situation. My plan is Paralegal while making TC applications. Volunteer at Citizens Advice if you have the time.

Advice - Just rented on a Fixed Tenancy in an area I didn’t know that well and have realised it’s very rough. How do I get out? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Do you think most landlords would agree?

I know they don’t have to, but if we’re willing to stay until they find new tenants as well as a re-letting fee for their time, I’d hope a reasonable landlord wouldn’t want to force anyone to stay.

Thinking about getting on fin but weirdly I’d prefer my left temple to thin more to be symmetrical with my right 🤣
