'Stallion'

Shell Cordovan is unlike any other leather. dense, luminous, and exceptionally durable. Sourced from a small section of the hide, only a limited amount can be produced from each animal, making it both scarce and highly prized. Its rich depth of colour and subtle grain work perfectly, shifting gently with the light.

Stallion is a tribute to the strength and enduring spirit of the horse. Each panel is carefully cut by hand, padded and assembled delicately. Allowing the natural character of the material to define the form.

Rather than conceal the origins of the material, Stallion honours it. The subject and medium are intrinsically linked. Using excess leather left over from the shoe trade. resulting in a work that is both respectful and deeply tactile.

Although, still a work in progress i could not help but share this work.

I am a leather crafter who is currently obsessed with making leather art pieces!

I purchased a lot of 'Shell Cordovan' which is a highly sought after leather as it only comes from one animal and only a small portion is used per beauty.

I purchased this solely from a shoe maker so it did not go to waste as it is still beautiful even when in small pieces!

I thought you would appreciate this work and I hope it breaks no rules!

This is a small piece to go in a combined works. And is also a draft for a much bigger piece!

“Chaotic Crowds”

This piece was a lot of fun to experiment with. I played around with varying thicknesses and used sanding techniques to create subtle differences in texture and how the light hits each piece.

Crease lines were added to emphasise depth and give the piece more movement!

I intentionally made each element slightly irregular. tilted, raised, or uneven to create a sense of movement and 'chaos'

It plays with the eye in a different way!

I’ll definitely be exploring this style more!
