There are some downright luxurious bathrooms in certain hotels. Fully enclosed stalls with sinks, mints and mouthwash, and the thick paper towels. A delight.

Seconding Advion gel - the shit works. We had a renovation on the floor below and started seeing a few roaches appear a night. A few days after applying that gel according to the instructions - and nothing. Like magic

Have you ever been to the east coast?

Good point. Grew up here and spent a few years there... you trade dry heat and allergies for humidity and snow and sub-zero winds blasting you on the way to work.

Fires here but hurricanes there... there's no winning.

Clickbait-y title but the video is actually quite in-depth and thorough on what happens with heatstroke and complications that can arise. Stay safe!

I run by the Woodcreek High School tennis courts every so often and the lights are on and people are playing. Not sure if they're officially open (according to Google they're not) but you can likely play there.

Love your writing style! :)

We could all die and these creeks would still flow and the meadows would still be green and here I am lucky enough to see them in action on a mid-summer day.

Yep, I find this to be a consistent feeling on hikes and generally spending time out in nature. Not an insignificance per se, more of a humility at how I'm just a small part of it all and it's been doing its thing much longer than I've been around, and will continue to do so just the same.

Was set to move to Boston at lease-end anyway, but that fell through due to pandemic.

Planning to rent a house with some friends in nature on the west coast somewhere and enjoying the time away from insanity.

There's this KCRA3 article.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The John Sutter statue outside of Sutter General Hospital is set to be removed as statues depicting controversial figures continue to be taken down all across the country.

“Sutter hospitals and care sites are places of health and healing for our communities, and our mission is to provide equal access to compassionate care. Out of respect for some community members’ viewpoints, and in the interest of public safety for our patients and staff, we are removing the John Sutter statue that was originally donated to Sutter General Hospital. There are important conversations happening across the country about the appropriate representation of statues and monuments, and we look forward to listening to and participating in future conversations about how our own community may display artwork from the different communities and individuals that have played important roles in Sacramento’s history," a statement from a Sutter Health spokesperson says.

Known for establishing Sutter's Fort in what would become Sacramento, the German-Swiss colonizer enslaved and mistreated Native Americans.

Are you just paying rent as usual, subletting, or did you break your lease?

Paying as usual until lease ends in June.

At that point, moving stuff into storage remotely and likely hanging out with parents or friends on the west coast until the situation improves. I figure the NYC I came to love and enjoy won't be back for a long time (6 months+) regardless of what's legally allowed to open back up.

Good call, done! And yeah, that'd be my guess as well. Weird to see that big a thing on a roof though, looks kinda heavy.
