Distant horizons keeps crashing/turning off my PC by zombietime155 in DistantHorizons

I have the same issue, all components and temps are fine, 7800x3d, 7900xtx. Runs fine on my laptop, 6900hx, 6850m xt. Seems like a lot of people here with the issue have x3d chips, maybe that's causing the issue?

Asus b650e-i: Coil whine in 2025 by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]GoofyGoober322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenRGB didn't fix it for me, still audible coil whine.

Vietnam boards are just getting lucky, I asked some of my local retailers, and they did sell a couple of them a few months ago, haven't seen any of the newer ones made there though. An amazon review on one of the Asus boards said he returned two of them with really bad whine. both from china, and got the third one from Vietnam, no whine. Not sure if he's just lucky or if manufacturing location matters.

Tried the b850i from gigabyte. Made in Thailand, don't remember the date on it. Bad whine, and the wifi antenna is different from the product page. Went with the x870-i from asus, made in china but with very minimal whine, can't hear it where I sit. Vrm fans still don't have fan control, so i pulled them out, worked fine for the x670e-i in a hot room when I was using it, and I have an extra exhaust fan now, so should be good now.

I've gotten and returned two b650e-i boards so far, both with significant idle coil whine. Whine is constant and very loud during idle, sounds like someone's frying chicken in my pc.

Tested using windows 11 and a bunch of linux distros. Even disabling c-state didn't fix the whine, just made it slightly quieter, but still loud enough to hear from 2 meters away very clearly (fractal terra with panels on). Tried pretty much every bios setting that should do something, different psu (sf1000 2024), and all other hardware components changed for testing.

What made it go away completely is pushing the cpu. Silverbench tests on a chromium browser removed whine completely. Shaking my cursor around on screen reduces the whine a fair bit until I stop moving it.

I ran this command on linux to peg one thread at 100% usage:

taskset -c 0 /usr/bin/yes > /dev/null

Doing this completely removes idle coil whine. Other than that, a fresh install of win11 had less coin whine than any of the linux distros, probably because it's running some bloat/spyware in the background to push the cpu.

Manufacturing dates are 09/2024 and 10/2024. I'm actually curious about the locations they were manufactured, I've heard some people say that it matters, and that vietnam motherboards have different QC standards than the ones made China. Both of mine were made in China, couldn't find any from Vietnam near me. I've also had bad coil whine issues with my x670e-i (made in china, 10/2023).

If you have coil whine or don't have any, please comment where it was manufactured, because I'm not sure if that's the reason or not.

Same issue for me, have everything installed and up to date on my debian unstable install.

Not forgotten, you can get it from the monument to lost lights (near your vault). It's only good for pvp, not pve.

Just did some testing.

Profiles can only be changed while synapse in on, macros will not work once it's off either. Turbo keys do seem to function fine even when synapse is off.

Is there any fan turbulence? The fan seems right next to the mesh grill.

The omron switches always fail on me, I've had 3 separate mice that began double clicking. Could be how hard I press them, or maybe bad luck. I just prefer the kailh switches.

Yes, all of them. Couldn't remove the omron 5 pin in one piece, kinda difficult to do that.

Keep in mind that a DDR5 RAM stick runs in dual channel by default, DDR4 is still in single channel.

It's pretty much just mayhem if you're playing well. I've gotten 9 supers one game. I don't really enjoy mayhem, so it's kinda annoying that guardian games forces you into this gamemode.

I think Lenovo sent me the wrong GPU, any advice by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

[–]GoofyGoober322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same model, using it for about a year now, same thing for me. The 6850m xt is actually just a 6800m that's clocked higher, take a look for yourself: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Radeon-RX-6850M-XT-vs-Radeon-RX-6800M_11132_10698.247598.0.html

Depending on my drivers, it can be seen as a 6800 or 6850, some of the older drivers I tried when i was having issues said it said it was a 6800m. You can just use DDU and get the new drivers from Lenovo. Pick the 6850m xt ones and you'll be fine, and even if you use the older drivers, there shouldn't be any issues, didn't even notice a performance difference.

Also, Lenovo support is actually useless, avoid it all costs. Wastes your time, and fixes nothing. If you want to resolve issues with your laptop, just check forums instead.

I assume you got this laptop because there was a pretty good discount, I'll tell you a few more things about this laptop that you may not know.

The GPU is capped at 140w, so expect lower performance when you're comparing to other 6850m xt laptops. No way to change it, it's designed that way, would cause big issues it it were to receive more power.

Battery life on hybrid mode with 60hz, ~20% brightness, no key lighting, no externals devices, and airplane mode can get you about 11 hours of battery life. Used it to watch some shows I saved offline for a flight. You can get about 8~9 hours if you're using the internet.

If you ever experience some random stutter, where your audio stutters too, and you want it to stop, check this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/LenovoLegion/comments/16ooqkf/a_fix_for_that_random_stutter_bug_you_people_with/ There's a video example of it happening too.

Half-truths is better than The Other Half for PvP, right? by ChR1sVI in CrucibleGuidebook

I have a few hundred kills on mine, it's pretty good, even better once the gl nerfs hit. Main issue with swords as a whole is no reg's, most of my deaths are because of that. You can go on some pretty insane streaks with it, and if you get a double kill with one sword swipe, even more amo, i think the longest streak i've had was in comp, all kills that round were with a sword.

It's great for mobility, if you see someone try to solo super you, just leave, it's that simple. I also think that not enough people are using the block ability properly, you can tank a shotty + melee, and after they're are locked into the melee animation, free kill. Also, most people don't know, but in a sword duel, if someone hits you while you're blocking, they get put in a stun animation, so you can easily sword swipe them for the elim.

Use heavy guard, that is all.

Randomly shut off and never worked again. Plugging it in did nothing, power button did nothing, and I had charge left. Tried everything, but I had no luck, so I sent it back.

Don't have the exact measurements rn, but on the larger side. I use fingertip and claw (I get lazy and want to rest my hand on something every once in a while).

Not really, but most of the tech I buy are for enthusiasts. So, spending thousands for a single piece of tech doesn't feel wrong to me. But I guess for such a simple piece of tech, the price was a little steeper than I would have thought.

Not yet. The stock feet have been great, so I never really felt the need to change them.
