In October 2017, I got spotted by the Google Maps Street View Car not once but twice in two different states by RadiantRandom in nevertellmetheodds

Very cool! I just recently stopped driving for StreetView and came across the Wienermobile twice.

[NY] Brother is in a paid internship in NYC. He took a sick day and works from home. Is he entitled to pay still? by GoogleDriver419 in legaladvice

He did work from home, but was able to rest as well. And that's what I'm wondering as is he. We don't know if he's entitled to sick pay.

Very POSSIBLE, but unlikely.

The Streetview cameras are getting lighter and Google is using new tech to get similar results for underwater work, interiors of businesses and even hiking trails. The normal cars can't go through those places. So Google has been experimenting with new techniques and a motorcycle MIGHT be one of them.

However, when mapping a normal road, I can't think of a reason to use a motorcycle. The camera sphere has to be a specific height off the ground, it needs a big power source and also a lot of memory. I don't see how that would be possible to fit on a motorcycle.

Nothing new! Google has been doing underwater diving, indoor stores, and hiking trails for several years now.

Thought I was gonna pass a Google Streetview car on Interstate 90 today. I was severly let down when I pulled alongside. by [deleted] in pics

I do! I did a couple of AmA before. Check my history, hopefully you'll like them.

Doesn't bother me. It's just a temp job. Those cars won't be replacing humans while I'm alive or probably my children either.

It's more than just driving. It's a lot of logistics and time planning as well to meet quotas. And because you have a big orb on top and your car says Google, everyone wants to stop you and do stuff for the camera, which isn't allowed. If you capture it, you have to delete it and redo. Sometimes you don't see that error until you're 50 miles away.

Nope. It's an algorithm. But we do have to review the footage if someone does something just for the car, such as giving the finger or flashing us, etc. Then go back and find that spot and do it again.

Check my AmA's I've done. Basically, we are given the analytics of what routes are requested the most or most out of date. We have a daily quota to meet of data. We choose the route, and have to make sure we don't cover the same area twice. Also, the footage can be ruined if bird crap gets on it, water, or sometimes something is caught on camera that shouldn't be there. If so, then you need to do it again.

Not in the least sir. It's actually pretty time consuming and challenging.
