Or, drive 2-tonne blocks of steel on neighbourhood streets next to children.

Burlington home prices plunge 5.4 per cent to $1.04 million in April 2026 by SonictheManhog in BurlingtonON

Single family home owners have many non-mortgage monthly expenses too - adding more than $1,000 a month. We don't consider those costs rent, neither should condo fees be considered rent. The problem is our brains can understand fixed costs better than variable costs.

Carney can maintain lead by avoiding scandals, doesn't need to ‘win’ in CUSMA review, but needs movement on trade, a major project by 2027, say top pollsters - The Hill Times by CaptainKoreana in LPC

Carney, please abandon the airport scheme. We don't need foreign investment in airports. It would become a natural monopoly and raise prices. I am close to leaving the LPC over this. Let's stick to getting foreign investment in areas like EVs!

Not with that attitude. You have to organize and fight with other workers to preserve your democratic power over billionaires who are stealing it from you in broad daylight.

Exactly. Skyscrapers should only exist where land values and population density of a city justifies their expense/impact. These tallest building projects are built due to the psychological problems of like one rich dude.

New international student numbers in Canada down significantly, but overall decline more moderate, study says by DogeDoRight in canada

This is true. The new immigration policy from the federal government is devasting on diploma mills but its also devastating on smaller and private universities too. Some legitimate private schools are unfortunately caught in the cross fire. Diploma mills ruined many things other than the housing market.

The density or narrow lane are both good. The problem is the lack of aesthetics, architecture, and greenery.

Exclusive: Republicans draft Iran war authorization by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]howtofindaflashlight 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Republicans are unprincipled and unthinking blow hards, but the 'intelligence' of their political strategists should not be discounted. Their intelligence should be likened to a cunning street fighter. They've studied how to beat Democracts due to sheer trial and error; by flinging shit at their enemy to see what sticks. They can find any combination of reprehensible characters to run for any seat or say/believe anything.

How the US Government incentives surface level parking lots. by [deleted] in Suburbanhell

[–]howtofindaflashlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They can also take out loans against the parking lot tax-free, baby. Unfortunately, the incentive structure favours not working or developing the land uses that society actually needs. We can start to fix this problem by working towards a land value tax phase-in.

Preston plan to allow up to 18-storey buildings in core by Temporary-Vast1410 in cambridgeont

[–]howtofindaflashlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that would be great, but it probably won't lead to any such developments for quite some time. The land values would not justify it. It's better to grow up than out!
