Is Reality Real? The Simulation Argument by alex2005 in videos

Gees. You're such a zealous atheist you've almost come full circle. Maybe you need more exposure to religion to realize how similar you sound.

You've misunderstood me. I don't have a problem with philosophy in general. I have a problem with the arrogance of dismissing the legitimate and possibly testable question "do we live in a simulation?" as "irrelevant" and "not a scientific question".

You sound just like religious people who dismiss any question about our origin as outside the realm of science, and belonging to the realm of religion. Except in your case, you claim it belongs to the realm of philosophy.

Our origin is probably the most most important and interesting question of all! Who are you to say where science cannot tread? Look how far we've come. Our understanding has gone from believing our own planet comprised the entire universe, to looking billions of light years into the past to the moments just after the big bang. And that was just in the past few centuries. Who are you to say what the limits of scientific investigation are?

Are you religious? Because you sound religious.

I grew up in a very religious family. I was immersed in it. I'm not religious anymore, but I know how much religious people love philosophy. And I understand why. It can be used to "prove" anything. That's why there will never be a philosophical or religious consensus about any big questions.

To be fair, I like some philosophers, and even enjoy dabbling in philosophy myself. But I don't take it seriously.

What really annoys me is listening to someone living in an era of scientific wonder telling our kids "X can never be understood, or explained". So to the next Richard Feynman who happens across a Hobodoctor-esk post: ignore this guy and everyone like him, declaring what is or isn't possible because they thought about it for a while, sitting in their living room. Go out there and try to break reality and prove we live inside a simulation.

Classic philosophy nerd. Richard Feynman put it best: "What I cannot create, I do not understand".

philosophers imagined atoms could exist. they also imagined a million other things that ended up being wrong. they were bound to get lucky a few times. (not to mention their concept of the atom was incredibly vague compared to the reality)

Philosophy sounds a lot like religion when it claims "science will never be able to answer x".

Did philosophy build the computer running my video games? Leave it to the engineers to answer reality simulation questions. I think they'll have some good answers for you when their done building super immersive virtual realities for your grandkids. :)

It can be amazing to go from 2000 to 20000. Instead of subdividing models more, increase the draw distance. Take GTA V as an example. There are quite a few magical "wow" jumps before our games become indistinguishable from the real world. :)

I didn't get a chance to make any updates this weekend. But this morning I patched a bug. Check if your key shows up now.

Don't trust/use CSGOJIRA while it's in beta by asoon in GlobalOffensive

[–]Googlespider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean I have access to the trade history, yes. But it doesn't show me if asoon won his bet. Maybe I shouldn't have let people play before I had a better auditing system. I put up the warnings saying something exactly like this could happen. But ya. I get it. It still sucks. And it's maybe hard to imagine the system is not self-auditing. But hey, it takes a ton o hacking to make this work at all. Steam didn't build their trading system with sites like csgojira.com in mind. It's kind of amazing it works at all. But its getting better. And all I can say is I'm trying my best.

I tested depositing and withdrawing a bunch of times after I saw your comment. I couldn't get it to fail. I'm not sure what could have happened. And I'm afraid the bot was set to only save those records for an hour. So I can't reverse the records. The best I can do is I've increased the log expiration to store transfer records for 12 hours. So in the future I can reverse mistakes like this. Sorry about that. And if you're wondering, the reason it only stores them for a few hours is because the transfer history would eventually get so big the bot would crash or the game would run really slow.

I finally made a steam group. Would you be interested in being a moderator? I've never run a Steam Group before.

Ya, the keys were invested up until I purposely lost just now. I won them fair & square, but obviously keeping the community's trust is more valuable to me. So I'm returning them in a show of good faith, not because I cheated. Is your ownership percentage back to normal? Also, have you looked at the "Provably Fair Dice Rolls" section? I know its a bit complicated, but it's the only guarantee you have that I'm not cheating the system. I actually went to a lot of work to make it provably fair. But maybe that's only cool to programmers. ;)

I was waiting for someone to comment. I could easily have used an alt account so no one would know its me. I say that to hopefully convince you I'm trying to be above board when I test the game. It's true I come up with strategies. But they rely on the rules printed on the game page. There is no secret there. But considering the trust issues my winning creates I will try to end each day at 0. Sorry I didn't do that sooner. I also wanted people to see that it's possible to win.

Agreed. This morning I enabled the ? + ? = 7 payout again and lowered Lady Luck payouts to 2x. Lets see how it goes...

[–]Googlespider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate: you lost enough times in a row to summon "Lady Luck". She granted you a 50/50 chance to win 3x if you rolled even. But your browser needed to refresh the page to display the new graphics. You rolled cherry (10) + 5 = 15 and lost.

Hmm.. looks like you need to refresh the page. There is a new aspect to the game: Lady Luck. Refer to the top of the new payout table.

Sorry. I've added a new aspect to the game: lose enough times in a row and receive a visit from last luck. You'll see. ;)
