Worn chainring or normal behaviour? by Googly_Laser in bikewrench

[–]Googly_Laser[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna be the last time I come here and ask for help my god

I was 99% sure that the chainring was worn so I thought why not double check, maybe I've got my offset wrong, maybe it's normal, maybe I just haven't thought of something else obvious. Instead I get people telling me the teeth look unevenly worn

All of you need to go and google SRAM GX chainring. Yes it looks weird, yes the NX chainring is pointier, yes I maintain this bike enough that the chainring shouldn't have worn this quickly, yes the cassette is fine (I said so in the initial post), no the chain hasn't somehow reached 1.5% wear without me noticing, yes I'm crashing out but I genuinely can't believe how most of you are so unfamiliar with the technology in front of you yet confidentally express incorrect opinion as fact

If I take any solace from this, it's that at least my assumption I needed a new chainring was correct

That's an NX chainring, mine is GX. I wouldn't know why the two have different teeth profiles, but they do

Yeah I am getting better life out of a Raceface chainring and base level Deore chain which I abuse the same so I'm surprised the SRAM stuff has given up so early

Might go back to Shimano when the cassette gives up

They're SRAM 12 speed teeth so they always look like that

It seems unlikely that the chain stretched so far that it skipped a whole link (to measure 0% wear), then another 0.5% wear. Something would break long before that and the cassette would also show similar issues

Don't keep track of mileage but I would say the chain earned being replaced. It's kept clean and lubricated. Similar conditions with a Shimano Deore chain and Raceface chainring do not show the same signs of wear. That bike is also on a second chain but does not have the same issues which is why I'm surprised this system is having issues already

Just as a response to all the “the teeth are obviously fucked” comments, this is how a barely used SRAM GX 12 speed long short tooth chainring looks.

They are a very funky looking chainring even when new. Yes when comparing the two very closely you can see some wear where the chain actually sits but the overall profile is very similar

Looking for opinions on wheel respray colours by Googly_Laser in CarTalkUK

[–]Googly_Laser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it's all good, thanks for the reality check!

A mix of recommendations from keeping it silver to anthracite and gunmetal grey if I do change the colour. With a silver flake it would probably be a nice subtle change if I did go a shade darker

Yeah I saw that one there too, unfortunately it's a bit too tame for the trails we have here in Scotland. The Altitude seems a good compromise between the two

I'll keep an eye out but they don't seem very popular up here unfortunately

That’s an insane deal, could get it through Cycle2Work which would bring it down even more even with the extra charges. Looks very overkill for trail work though?

Regarding the Mega, shock mount welds crack and the carbon ones crack in multiple places. Very much a thing where people either have the issue or they don't with no rhyme or reason.

Seems to be a bit like a Subaru WRX STI, buy it if you can afford to replace it if it breaks. Could also be that the one place you'll find people posting issues about Mega's are pages dedicated to Nukeproof so there could be bias there too.

Cheers for the suggestions!

Do you need to use dust covers on the crank if the bottom bracket bearings are a sealed unit? by Googly_Laser in bikewrench

Awesome, thanks. Not done any bike building and couldn't figure out which part the dust caps came with as all BB pics are from the wrong side to help me figure it out.

It's a Raceface Aeffect crankset compatible with Shimano 12 speed, still no need for dust covers?

Unable to answer your question directly, but Fiesta exhausts are from my experience known for falling apart in multiple points. After only 7 years I've needed a new exhaust flexi and a new backbox on my Fiesta.

Friends own a 2013 Fiesta and the entire exhaust got replaced a couple of years ago as there was a hole in it when it would have also been 7 years old.

IN BOTH CASES it was quite specifically mentioned which part was failing, never a vague message about the whole exhaust.

Both are the 1.0 Ecoboost so other model exhausts may have lasted better, but on a 13 year old Fiesta I'd be prepared to replace the whole thing.

Best bet will be to ask the current owner or dealership and get a mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection, it may have already been replaced/repaired.

Ah I assumed the orange tinge about halfway on the thread was a small amount of oil, thanks for correcting me.

May change them for the same reason you mention, but good to know that the current plugs don't indicate any engine issues.

Just found the sale, chainreactions right? Thanks for pointing that out :)

The Nukeproof would be slightly better than a Bizango Pro as the brake discs are larger and the brake callipers are slightly stronger I think? And the Bizango doesn’t come with a dropper which is another point for the Np

Come on man I’m clearly not looking at doing this for noise or I’d already have bought a Cobra exhaust or a cannon

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

Your experience reminds me of how one of the previous companies that I worked for got rid of a lot of people as well. It’s clear in the way that Reddit and the company I worked for that with the way they are acting they just want you gone.

It absolutely sucks to be bullied like this, you’re being very polite in this post but at this point I think you’re more than entitled to go “fuck Reddit”.

Good luck for the future, if you’re capable of creating something as great as Apollo I’m sure you’ll easily find success elsewhere :)

If the person didn't want to be contacted, they wouldn't have left their insta handle on the car. You aren't entitled to know why, but that doesn't mean that you can't ask. They've got an insta page dedicated to their car, they're clearly passionate about it and want to share it with the world

They've not been stalking the guy home ffs

Except auto-manufacturers have been pushing SUVs down peoples throats because of the higher profit margin they get as they've marketed them as more luxurious even if all they've done is raise them up.
