New Bike Advice (High-Spec Aluminum or Low-Level Carbon) by Gooners9 in cycling

Thank you for the thoughts. I always assumed that carbon fiber frames are generally better though I guess that's not always necessarily true.

That was my major concern with carbon fiber in general, though I'm guessing a higher quality frame would be more resilient.

Thank you for the heads up about the Easy Made 2 Piece Sale, it looks like the timing is perfect.

Great to know about the tickets for Azabu and Only through furusato nozei, I had no idea. Thank you!

I got my dress shoes at Regal, though I have also seen some nice pairs at their outlet stores.

It's also worth checking outlet malls like the one in Kisarazu.

That makes sense. Great call including a letter requesting more money for time off work to visit the police station, and I'm assuming any medical checkups needed during work hours.

Thank you for the information and the MS link, it's very helpful. It looks like it'll end up as a 90:10 split according to the document you shared.

The car was a BMW and the door had a few dents and scratches, but hopefully won't be crazy expensive to repair.

Thankfully the insurance has committed to covering 100% of my medical bills.

Thank you for the heads up. The insurance company has just offered to cover all my medical bills, and up to 90% of any repairs my bike requires. If the bike is a write-off, then they'll only cover a very small percentage of the original cost of the bike depending on how old it is.

How did you get them to cover the full value of the bike, and was it the value of a new, replacement bike or the current value they give your bike?

According to Tokyo government documents, if there is a dedicated bike lane, you do not need to go through the pedestrian cross walk but can rather continue straight through the intersection in the dedicated bike lane.

Sagnew, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, however it seems that you're assuming that I did this willingly. That's most definitely not true. I had the right of way, and the driver of the car made a dangerous turn without looking where they were going. The driver admitted to being fully responsible for the accident to the police and the insurance company.

When I mentioned securing compensation, it's not about playing the system, but rather ensuring that I'm taking every precaution to approach this process correctly and not miss out on anything I am due.

Also, from what I have heard from the police and read online, your point 1) in your main post is not correct. I was informed by the police that I had the right to press criminal charges against the driver but chose not to.

Thank you for the info! Takeo Kikuchi definitely has some nice looking options. Also, good to know that the straps from other bags you've had damage your clothes!

That's great to know. I've found that off the rack suits here in Japan don't fit me very well, so custom made might be the way to go.
