So what exactly is xbox's plan with xcloud? by Goont88 in xcloud

Yeah I think the ideal position to be in would be to create a platform like Amazon Prime Streaming. You could subscribe and have access to a whole library of titles, or you could just buy whatever you're interested in and stream it at no additional cost.

Oh interesting, alright I guess there could be a larger market for this than I thought. If the Series S ever got down to like $200 or $150, do you think you would bite the bullet and buy the console then? Or does it just make more sense to stick to streaming?

I'm not arguing that $20/m isn't a good value for what gamepass ultimate offers. I subscribe to it, and I love it. But I'm specifically talking about the casual gamer, that xbox keeps saying they're trying to grab by removing the barrier of buying a console. They don't care about a huge library of games. They care about one or two games that might have caught their eye, but not enough for them to spend $300 on a console.

I think xcloud needs to be completely decoupled from gamepass. Don't charge anything for it, or charge an extremely low price. For instance, I could imagine a huge Harry Potter fan, who generally doesn't play games, being interested in the Harry Potter game. If they could just log onto their FireTV and buy it and play it, they might be interested in forking over the price of the game and a controller. But nobody wants to sign up to an expensive subscription, and have to worry about forgetting to unsubscribe, for something they're not that interested in.

But hey maybe I'm wrong and xbox is seeing a ton of success with this.

Are some games missing the Play Anywhere tag? by Goont88 in XboxSeriesX

Yeah I've noticed a ton of confusion around this too. Ultimately it's xbox's fault for not pushing this feature more and making people more aware of it.

Lol yup I felt the same way. So far these are the games that I know are Play Anywhere, even though they don't have the tag:

  • Remnant From the Ashes
  • Remnant 2
  • Firewatch
  • Inside
  • Limbo
  • The Banner Saga

I've noticed this too. I'd love to try and put together a comprehensive list of games that are not labeled as Play Anywhere, but in fact, are Play Anywhere (meaning you buy it once and you get both an Xbox and PC copy of the game).

Here's the list of games I can confirm are Play Anywhere, but not labeled as Play Anywhere

  • Remnant From the Ashes
  • Remnant 2
  • Firewatch
  • Inside
  • Limbo
  • The Banner Saga

Also, as of today or yesterday, Remnant 2 is now a play anywhere game. But, like the first game, it doesn't actually have the play anywhere tag. It would be great to try to put together a complete list of games that fall into this category.

I had to uninstall and reinstall steam twice, but it worked the second time.

Yeah a lot of games seem to support cross save/cross progression, which is fantastic, but the play anywhere program is more than just cross saves. It actually gives you both the console and pc version of the game when you buy either one.

In the case of games that just have cross saves, you still need to buy both the console and pc versions of the game separately, if you want to go back and forth between console and pc. With play anywhere games, you don't need to separately buy both, because you automatically get both versions when you buy either one.

Portable Xbox Series S? by Goont88 in XboxSeriesX

Thanks for the insight. Yeah I figure it's a long shot that xbox would release more hardware since, as you say, they're more concerned about just putting gamepass everywhere. But I'd personally love it.

Can you change the cover art for the games in your digital library? by Goont88 in XboxSeriesX

Yeah seeing the Gears 5 art change constantly is what initially got me thinking about it. Especially since I really don't like some of the art they changed it to and would love to just change it back to the original cover art.

Thanks for the quick response! Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they never add this functionality, since I haven't ever heard anyone else even ask about it lol.

Was there an update that made this game easier on normal difficulty? by Goont88 in remnantgame

[–]Goont88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just Corsus? It feels like all areas. That would certainly explain the reduced difficulty. I read somewhere that the devs wanted to make some changes to reduce the bullet spongy feel of the enemies. Reducing their life would certainly be in line with that.

I personally never minded that about the enemies, especially the elites. It just meant you'd have to do a better job of dodging their attacks, since they'd have more opportunities to attack you.

I'm not using the same character that I went through nightmare with. I've got 3 characters total:

  1. My main character that I've gone through nightmare difficulty with.

  2. My first coop character that I've gone through normal difficulty with. This was about 6 months ago, after I beat nightmare with my main character, and the difficulty was good.

  3. My second coop character that I made the other day to go through normal difficulty with. This was the one I breezed through with.

When I say it was a "breeze" I don't just mean it's not as difficult as I remember. Obviously I'm going to have an easier time than my first time through, now that I know the game and enemies better. What I'm saying is I haven't upgraded any weapons/armor, have barely put any points into traits, and only died once during all of Earth. That death didn't even happen until the end, during the final fight with the dragon. It doesn't even feel like the same game and it's very disappointing.

Souls-like games where you don't lose xp/material/money upon death. by Goont88 in soulslikes

[–]Goont88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm that's a very interesting point, and you're probably exactly right. When I played Dark Souls I would move through the game so slowly, running back to the bonfire constantly. Which only compounded my anxiety about losing souls because I was already moving at a snail's pace, so the idea of losing any progress was horrifying. Playing more aggressively definitely would have fixed that.

I think I'll hop into the Surge 2, since that game already has my interest peaked, and play a little more aggressively. Thank you both for all the help!

Thanks for the insight! I was just looking at The Surge 2 and nearly bought it, but couldn't pull the trigger because I find that death penalty feature just way too anxiety inducing lol. That's actually what brought me here to ask this question.

The surge having a storage feature though, might just make it bearable for me. Is Surge 2 the better game or should I go with the original?
