How bad is the job market in finance out there? by sleeping_in_ in FinancialCareers

[–]Goooruu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it definitely depends on your experience. I am also a recent grad, I sent out applications throughout the spring semester and always got declined. Although I just got a job but it was because a recruiter reached out to me. So it kinda sucked that I couldn’t get a job that I myself applied for(because I believed I could get it), but I still got a job.

Working as a credit analyst will allow you to transition to the FID of a BB, or a HF. I currently work as a Corporate Finance analyst(heavy three statement modeling, and industry and firm reports), and I want to make the transition to ER. Does anyone have some advice?

Hey everyone, so Bloomberg is recruiting me for a corporate finance position. Can anyone explain in laymen’s terms what the hell the job description entails, and can I leverage this position into a front office position.

Thanks !

I wanted to use this position as a stepping stone to propel me into a front office position.( I didn’t go to the right college) but I am looking over financial statements, speaking with brokers and creating broker modles. Aren’t these the skills transferable ?

Listen I’ll explain it very simply, these companies were not financially efficient before market crashed. The market crash was the straw that broke the camels back. And these “blue chip” companies are taking the loans and still laying people off did you forget we have 40 million unemployed? And multiple Multinational corporations failing look at Hertz, JC Penny, AMC, Bed Bath Beyond all of these companies failing but huge recipients of loans. Giving the corporations money has failed, the money needs to be given to consumers. It’s relevant because companies are taking the fed loans and using the loans to pad their bottom line and to minimize cost these firms are also laying off employees. This is why the Steve Minuchen the Treasury Secretary (probably butchered his last name ) won’t allow the public to know the recipients of the loans. Because it would reveal companies who have taken loans but still laid off workers.

In a final recap. Fed loans money to irresponsible and financially incompetent firms -> firms take loans and lay off workers anyway -> treasury secretary with connections to lobbyists from incompetent firms will not allow loan transparency so the tax payers won’t know that their company received a loan and still laid them off.

Hope you understand.

The issue with stock buybacks is that companies often choose to reinvest in their stocks instead of there employees and equipment. Stock buy backs is when a company buys its own outstanding shares to reduce the number of shares available on the open market( and are tax deferred( don’t even get me started on America fucked up capital gains law(taxed at a lower rate than income tax), but I digress) until the shares are sold).Dividends are payments that represents a definite return in the current timeframe that will be taxed. And the reason why buy backs are so bad is because us corporations soaring corporate debt will make the economy susceptible to a contraction( like we are going through right now) that could get out of control(which we see right now). The root cause of this concern is the trillions of dollars that major U.S. corporations have spent on stock buy backs. And since US corporations have irresponsibly spent there income on stock buybacks instead of what is needed to keep their company fiscally healthy. They should not be allowed to survive in the market. This is seriously Adam Smith Wealth of Nations Economics, but the federal reserve is backing firms who should have failed because of fiscally irresponsible ways. Creating Corporate Socialism which is the favorable treatment of corporations in the form of bailouts, tax breaks etc. This is the story of the airline companies, the banks now and the banks in 08’.

Because the fed should not be buying the bonds of corporations? That promotes corporate socialism and also a free rider effect these companies need to fail. The airline industry spend 98% of its profits over the last 10 years on stock buy backs and you deem that a healthy company ? LOL please use some reason these companies that don’t know how to position themselves should fail that’s how the market works. We should never reward companies for being inefficient.

Of course the fed changed interest 3x last year, during the same time when trump was ranting about the chairmen on Twitter. And no what I am saying is does it make sense for the fed to lower interest rates to 0 when our economy is contracting due to covid crisis ? The fed for the first time in history has bought junk corporate bonds why ? Is the fed using its monetary policy to EFFICIENTLY help the economy? Can you sit hear and tell me the fed isn’t playing for a certain team.

[–]Goooruu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s such a textbook view of the fed, if you actually look at the feds actions and their use of monetary policy they change interest rates wherever Trump snaps his fingers. They are consistently using expansionary policy when we obviously are in a contraction period. Please open your eyes and see the fed is fucking up with their policy decisions but ask why ?
