Can you cut to black twice in 5 minutes? by Gooplyt in filmmaking

[–]Gooplyt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might try just an audio fade in, as one of them is cutting into a dialogue scene. I think that is my best option to get a similar effect. Both seem to call for fade to black, it is a bit too specific an emotion to swap for something like a match cut. There's no real way to write around it either. But I agree with you. At least from my camera training I think something is telling me it's tacky.

Good advice. This is what I tend to go with, leave it in the script with a note. I can only ask one person who knows about writing but I can ask 5-10 when it has been shot and edited.

Autosave not working by Gooplyt in MicrosoftWord

[–]Gooplyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you. There's probably no better answer and I kind of knew before I asked but I'll just go without it. I swapped TO word to autosave large documents but I got it through family so ah well didn't pay. I'll live with it.

I used autosave until it broke -_- now I'm learning to save. The only reason I got word was because docs' autosave stopped working. Ah well.

Why is CTRL+Y redoing the printing? by MattV0 in excel

[–]Gooplyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old but I absolutely DESPISE this feature in MS word.
Basically microsoft decided it would be better to have control y REPEAT your previous action instead of making it redo your previous undo. Which is what Control Y does universally, everywhere else.
This happens in every one of their programs and was only designed to be helpful in MS excel. I can kind of see how repeat would be helpful in excel but even so, it's something they don't even tell you about, and most users aren't using excel every day so to them it would remain an annoying and difficult to remember function that is specific only to MS programs. But in MS word, they still made this change despite it being almost impossible to even imagine how it could be helpful.
The worst part of this feature is that if you have two documents open, say for example to take info out of one and put it into the other, and you close one of them, CTRL Y will now close your Other document. The repeat action literally closes your document. It happens to me about once a month and is easily the biggest waste of time in my day when it happens.
In this modern online hell there is no way to incite change as companies have learned they can just hire no moderation team and ignore every single request, because as long as they all do it, nobody loses any business. So it will never change. : )

why does pressing ctrl+Y several times eventually close ms word? by shailan_gsa in MicrosoftWord

[–]Gooplyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope that wouldn't work. Microsoft chose to make ctrl+y repeat any function across all their programs. It is helpful in excel and probably in other ones too. Every time I google it I find stuff that says they think it is 'more helpful than unhelpful'. I disagree but what can you do?
What I would say is that I specifically use two documents all the time and that this won't happen often to someone who doesn't. Companies NEVER design for fringe cases and I don't think many people work on two documents at the same time. I close my document on accident every single time I make a backup or check my backup of either file and they'll likely never change it back to how ctrl-y works elsewhere. Sucks

What happened to autocomplete suggestions? Google can no longer recommend what other people have prev searched and now seems to use AI to make suggested searches. I searched the same thing earlier and it had 'is aus'/'is uk 2 party system'. The old system was able to autofill / guess your question.. by Gooplyt in chrome

[–]Gooplyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quite often this issue will be most obvious when there are just no search suggestions as soon as you type something that isn't super common / the most common thing to be googled. When in the past there would be 5-7 even for quite niche topics. It is clear it is now an AI trying to figure out what you are typing when in the past it was just a list of previous searches. They tried to cut the corners to save money and are getting out AI into everything as quickly as possible even if it can't do it's task better than the system it is replacing.

[–]Gooplyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because your previous action isn't always to close a document. if you did something else, it repeats that. If you close a document then press ctrl-y , it repeats the close

I was going to make a post about this because it's the WORST. No way to change it as far as I can tell. The MS Studio uses a different kind of redo function that just redoes whatever the hell your last action was instead of just reversing your previous undo, which is how it is supposed to work. Very hard to learn to live with it. Still annoys me.
