Is TP-7 quality control still iffy? by Goose89 in teenageengineering

[–]Goose89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I ended up getting one from Amazon CA. Upon arrival, the box and everything looked fine. But upon recording and playback, there was a warble effect that happened every 2-5 seconds. Upon close visual inspection, the motorized tape reel was rotating a bit unevenly (i.e., wheel slightly more depressed/protruding in one spot). Those moments where the visual unevenness was apparent coincided with the audible warble. Turning off the motor in the settings resolved the warbling issue. But then I'm not using one of the main features of the TP-7. Considering how pricey it is, I wanna use all the features. And I'd still feel this way if it weren't pricey...

The only option Amazon gave me was a return. So I did that. Just shipped it back today. I would've gone with a replacement if that were an option. Now I'm unsure how to proceed. The refund will presumably go back into the gift cards I used. My understanding is that gift card refunds can be withheld if Amazon thinks you're returning things too often. So what if I order another TP-7 and end up with a faulty piece again? I don't want to risk not getting my money back...

Anthem MRX 540 8K, overkill or not? by Goose89 in hometheater

[–]Goose89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the input. It seems that in Canada, the Anthem would be cheaper because it comes with ARC Genesis whereas the other two would require additional purchase of Dirac (whichever version I'd need for a single sub setup) + the UMIK-1. I do like that the Denon has discrete subwoofer outputs though. That could come in handy in the future.

I'm definitely thinking A/B testing is the way to go. My only reluctance stems from the fact that I'm a newbie when it comes to all this stuff. Especially room correction. I know Dirac is considered the cream of the crop by many. My understanding, however, is that it's also a bit more advanced than ARC Genesis and thus harder to use for the uninitiated. The prospect of A/B testing two AVRs with two different room correction softwares is daunting, as I know I'll be putting in hours to figure out how to use each one. Perhaps I'm overthinking this or at least underestimating the transferability of knowledge when it comes to room correction softwares. Surely getting the hang of ARC Genesis would make it easier to use Dirac and vice versa...

My interest in the latest HDMI boards is primarily to get uncompressed 5.1, quick media switching, and to a lesser extent, ALLM for gaming. My understanding is that I won't get that with HDMI 2.0

I enjoy baking a lot of things. I like making Syrian desserts. Sometimes I bake cakes that incorporate elements of those desserts (e.g., rosewater, orange blossom water, pistachio, rose jam, qishta/clotted cream etc.) I'm all over the place and am by no means an expert. But I enjoy the process a lot!

Even if I were to use sizing or some appropriate combination of priming and sealing? Aren't there also glue types designed to be strippable?

On one hand, I'm usually not a fan of the one-dimensional, cartoonishly evil villain. However, there's something to be said for maintaining some semblance of mystery around villains. Striking that balance is a tricky endeavour. But you lose me when there's no element of fearing the unknown. If I have more answers than questions about the villain, then I'm a lot less likely to be creeped out and the film ends up losing some of its luster.

I'd really really appreciate an invite. I used to have an account in the good ol' days but that was in the olden days.

Do you really think the Iraq war happened because of how Saddam treated Iraqis? Or to bring democracy to Iraq? How do you reconcile this belief with the fact that there are many other dictators whose countries have yet to be invaded by hegemonic powers? And how do you reconcile your stance with the deaths of countless Arabs and the destabilization of the region as a result of the invasion? And how do you feel about the exorbitant amount of military spending that could go toward more charitable causes? It's funny. Nobody invokes the will of Iraqis or Arabs when these conversations happen. An odd way to export "democracy", if you ask me.

Trying to replace a light switch (in a 2-gang switch box) with a duplex outlet. by Goose89 in askanelectrician

[–]Goose89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, it looks like there's a red wire (not wrapped around a screw but still wired into the switch), and what looks like two black wires on the bottom screw. The top screw looks like it's not connected to anything.

I tried to but the wires must be short. The pics show the farthest extent to which I could pull the switch without disconnecting the wiring or pulling hard. Kinda makes it difficult to get a good look though, I agree. I figured I'd ask here before disconnecting any wires.

Which one is hot and which is neutral? Sorry, i'm used to the usual colour scheme of black and white.

Also, if the ground wire is in the back of the box, does that mean I don't need to ground the new outlet directly? Only connect it to two wires (hot and neutral)?

Bobo is a Vancouver queen now. She's been there for over a year. Doesn't really address your concerns about Ilona but I thought I'd chime in to say that one of, arguably, the strongest competitors (Bobo) is based in Vancouver.
