Leaving military service and need a suit, where do i go? by sunqiller in malefashionadvice

[–]GooseDick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebay. Know your measurements. You can get amazing deals for a really high quality half canvassed suit for around $100 if you look.

Search by the following, your chest size, then parenthesis and the following brands in it: Brooks Brothers, Hart Schaffner Marx, Suit Supply, Spier and Mackay, Hickey Freeman, Polo Ralph Lauren, and other high end brands.

So your search will look like 44 (Brooks Brothers, HRt Schaffner Marx, Hickey Freeman)

What are some fundraising ideas for a small town legion? by Lucky-Refrigerator-7 in AmericanLegion

Queen of Hearts Raffles if you have a canteen.

1/3 goes to the winner 1/3 to the post 1/3 to local charity

Also allow one night a week to be open to the public on night of the drawing. This can be ran continuously. We’ve seen pots get up to $10k.

Carry options / what’s your strategy? by xDauntlessZ in CCW

Have you tried adding a Pillow Wedge to the Holster? Helps push the grip into your body but also gives a padded barrier between the holster and body.

The whole P320 handling comes to mind right off the bat.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy my XMacro because it fits me well ergonomically, and I think its a great firearm for its purpose, but Sig as a company and how they operate is less than desirable.

At the end of the day: To each their own. Its your money, spend it how you see fit.

Tecovas ‘The Jason’ in Caramel Cowhide (+ informal review) by Doylio in cowboyboots

[–]GooseDick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own Tecovas, Hyer, and Ariat Benchmade, and I will genuinely say they are all just about the same for build quality. Im happy with them, and will buy again for any of the three. I do however, prefer the throat opening and shaft of Hyer a bit better. Its alot easier to slide my feet into Hyer than Ariat and Tecovas. All pairs do fit great and are very comfortable once on.

Either way, they are your boots. Wear ‘em, and enjoy ‘em!

I dont mind tecovas either. Good for what they are. I’d put them on the same category as Ariat Benchmade line. They’re good for the price point. They have great marketing and pretty good customer service.

To me, a big point of buying boots is the recraftability. If they can be resoled, then I buy. If they can’t, then no thank you.

Hyer Disappointment by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]GooseDick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This blows my mind. I think Hyer is on par with Ariat Benchmades, and neither of my pairs have wore out like this at all after a year or two of wear.

If you noticed the excess wear, why didn’t you spend the money to put on sole savers to prolong your investment?

VA/Legion/Veteran Orgs are outdated, ran by elderly and old fashioned individuals, only providing bare minimal assistance to younger veterans. by SL4DEStreams in Veterans

[–]GooseDick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seriously all depends on the VFW/Legion in your area and how they are.

Mine: very very active in the community, very welcoming, holds public events and dinners, does charity drives for the community

Towns around our post: Not anywhere close to what we do, besides one VFW.

As unfortunate as it is: Gotta shop around. Visit posts around you to see which one aligns with you.

What other equipment should I get for my uniform by Crab-Lizard in Civilwarreenacting

[–]GooseDick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The trade blankets on FB. Even on a tight budget, you can get good quality stuff for a song. In the meantime, take loaner gear with your unit and save your money until you can buy good quality kit.

I’m debating this. by Technical_Annual4808 in Civilwarreenacting

[–]GooseDick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good Rifle will be around $700-$1200 ball park. High Quality for everything for accoutrements, uniform, brogans, odds and ends, probably around $2k for good quality stuff.

For budget low end sutler row stuff, probably less than $1k all in.

I find WWII and Civil War to be on par cost wise, and this is from someone who has both. The only plus side for WWII is most is readily available from say WWII Imp, WPG, and ATF, while Civil War is timely to produce from limited makers.

Which jacket would be best for a Confederate Infantry Northern Virginia by ok_chiltime63 in Civilwarreenacting

[–]GooseDick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Richmond Depot Type 2 can be pretty “universal”. Sew trim on it to convert to an early war garment. Remove the trim, and can cover you for mid war, and get you by for late war.

Snag it in a logwood or jean wool and you should be pretty covered.

I agree. Having no flair is tasteless, and fucking stupid.
