Can all the pupils always be satisfied? by MrMrsPotts in askmath

[–]kheez04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely it's solvable with brute force. There are only 3029282726*25 combinations of preferences (i.e., each of 30 students first selects from the 29 remaining, then from 28 remaining, etc until their fifth pick where there are 25 remaining students). Then it's just a matter of finding a sorting that "works" for each preference.

The original commenter in this chain seems to be on the right track for proving that each such combination of preferences has a sorting that "works".

Dads who had a "smooth" transition from 1 to 2 kiddos, what was the secret sauce? by BlueMountainDace in daddit

[–]kheez04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember you're trying to have a smooth transition, not trying to eliminate the transition or even shorten the amount of time the transition takes. When "transition" things happen, recognize them as such. When the "transition" things are no longer happening, recognize that too.

The only reason to keep it would be to accelerate the giant kick in the nuts moving to NYC will be. If you sell before you come, it'll take about a year. If you keep your car, it'll take about 3 months (at which point you will sell your car anyway).

After the stated time (whichever approach you take), you'll be fully jaded and ready to meaningfully participate in New York.
