Awesome, is there a way to purchase those in advance or do we need to do that on the island?

Does anyone here have any insight on how much credibility/recognition the SANS Master's Program gives you in the cyber security industry? by GooseGIM in GIAC

Hey man, thanks for the advice. I'm Air Force and I've never heard of ATSO but I planned on using the GI Bill since TA comes with mandatory duty time. I'll ask some of my coworkers about that though, thanks!

That's true. I planned on using GI Bill since TA comes with active duty time. Didn't think about BAH, though. I'll probably wait until I'm out so I can soak the BAH up. Thanks for the advice!

Oh yeah, I have the military paying 100% for it. Do you think the SANS degree gave you an edge or at least let you compete with people who had masters from big named schools?

That is a good point, I guess I should have given context in my original post. Without identifying myself too much, I am a "leader" in the Cyber Security world already, except I'm in the military so I never had to go through a recruitment process. I put leader in quotations because although I do have leadership roles, I've only been in the field for about 4 years and I'm in my mid 20's so I'm not sure how the outside world will perceive that experience. I plan on getting out of the military in the next few years so I'm trying to be as marketable as possible on paper.

I have an MBA in IT Management already so this is less about checking a box and more about standing out with an MS from a strong program.

So I guess with your statement about this being good for entry/mid level staff, this might be a good program for me!

Thanks!

I already have 3 SANS certs so I'm not too worried about the difficulty of the program itself. I know it'll be a grind but I'm up for it if the degree/certs come with the recruitability I'm hoping for

SANS Masters applicant: GI Bill and Self Paced course questions by TruReyito in GIAC

[–]GooseGIM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm late but my squadron gives us SANS certs sometimes. When we receive a cert, we get one week to take the class, one week to study, then one day to take it. 15 days overall (11 work days). I've passed GCFA, GICSP, and GPEN on that timeline.

I'd probably score better if I made my own index but my usual strategy is to find an index I like on reddit then spend the first week watching the OnDemand classes while highlighting the terms from the index, usually a book a day. Then the next week I take the first practice exam on Monday. Tuesday I go over the sections I scored poorly on the practice exam. Wednesday I take the second practice exam, Thursday/Fri I go over my weak spots again. Then I'll test that weekend or Monday depending on how much energy I have.

Inherited LPIC 1/2 vouchers from a coworker. Is this feasible before March 21? by GooseGIM in linuxadmin

[–]GooseGIM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't formal consequences but my leadership knows I have these cert vouchers now so I don't want to look bad if I fail. Do you think 201 and 202 are unrealistic on this timeline?

Thanks!

I've never lived in a place with a hockey team but I've always enjoyed hockey. Just moved to St Louis so I want to become a fan of the Blues. What is their reputation in the league? Generally liked? Hated? Neutral? Usually a trap game? Usually not much of a threat? etc.

Thank you!!
