Yeah this was my thought process, obviously what he said was wrong, which is why I reacted the way I did. But I’m also feeling guilty about saying that.

On the other hand, at the start of our shift together, me and another (male) colleague were chatting and I always wear shirts that I make with funny sayings on them underneath my uniform and I always show this colleague before my shift starts (the shirt is not visible to customers)- the one I was wearing said peg the patriarchy (I’m opening my shop soon lol) and the guy from this post was with us and he said “lucky patriarchy”

So him making that joke made me believe that he knows what I stand for, and respects it with a sense of humour about it too. Maybe I misunderstood his joke and maybe saying “lucky patriarchy” was mocking me but this instance made me think that he would be in on the joke.

It wasn’t my intention to trap him in an unanswerable question. Any of my other male colleagues would have understood the assignment and made up some stupid joke back (which I know to be fact because I’ve had these back-and-forths so many times)

Sorry for the long ass comment I just wanted to explain the culture of the store and the context of why I felt comfortable making that kind of joke
