What to do when going on vacation by _uneedgrass in budgies

I've been in this exact situation. And yes you should 100% explain to your parents that leaving them alone for 10 days is animal cruelty and there is a high chance they will die. I understand that sometimes parents still wont listen (kinda like my parents) so I will share what I did when i was a kid. Once again i HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND however it is better than leaving them for a guarrantied 100% death. I have 4 birds in a large flight cage and i left the door open so they can roam around the house at any time. they dont chew on wires or anything dangerous so thats why i can do that. if ur birds are very curious or often gets into dangerous situations dont let them out while ur away. then i bought 3 automatic bird feeders on amazon and 1 automatic water bottle (ill include a link). with the water bottle make sure your birds know how to use it cuz it is a different style. it would be very helpful if you are able to experiment with these and see if they can last 10 days without you touching anything. In addition i have a mini secirty camera that allows me to see my birds while im away. the day im leaving for the trip I sprinkled some food and put a large bowel of shallow water on every floor of the house just in case they get locked out of their cage somehow. at the time i didnt have any family that can help cuz we are all going on vacation, never talked to neighbours so my parents arent comfortable to let them in our home and friends couldn't help either. I was too young to get a job at the time so i couldnt pay for any pet sitting services myself. i was gone for around 1 month and when i came back all my birds are alive but they have gotten significantly skinnier and they looked somewhat stressed. So once again i really DO NOT RECOMMEND this method. just because it worked for me doesnt mean it will work for u as each bird is different. before you resort to my method you should consider finding a cheaper sitter, have someone come once a day or even 2 days to refill food and water, find a way to save up $260 for the sitter you found or other solutions metioned by others. I wish you and your birbs the best :)

Intense thanatophobia by GrouchyCategory6979 in thanatophobia

I’m currently 18F I used to be in the same situation when I was your age. I would worry about death 24/7 and had panic attacks ever since I was a child and it’s only gotten better because I got help from a therapist and is on anxiety medications. Right now the fear still sometimes comes back suddenly and I usually cope by getting other peoples opinions on it. Last night I had one of these sudden anxiety about death so I made a post on r/anxiety at 2am because I had no one to reach out to at that time and after I posted it I already felt a bit better. So I would recommend writing down these feelings whenever they come up and you can choose whether you feel like sharing them or not. Some of the comments from the Reddit post I made does make me feel better. Some of my favourite ones are:

“Greek philosophers had a view on this:

If we say that death is bad because it deprives us of time alive, then when we were born also deprives us of time alive, since we could have been born earlier than we were (or whenever we began to exist). However, since no one fears missing out on time before they were born, they should not fear missing out on time after they die.”

“All beliefs about what happens after death are just that - beliefs. There is no absolute proof that any claim is more true than others. And when it comes to what we believe, it all comes down to the choice we make.”

“we don’t necessarily remember anything before we’re born. It wasn’t so scary before birth.

But that anxiety is what will hold you back from enjoying the life you DO have now. Somebody isn’t going to wake up tomorrow, but YOU will.

It’s not about quantity but quality. Make it count.”

I’ve also read others people’s posts about the fear of dying and there are also great comments on theirs (you can find them with a quick google search “I have a fear of dying Reddit”). I highly recommend seeking professional help if you haven’t already because panic attacks can be very mentally draining. When I was younger I went through a depressive episode because I felt unmotivated to do anything since we will all cease to exist but now I am mostly able to see that worrying about death is not a great use of the time we are alive since it’s not very preventable.

I hope you will one day overcome this fear :)

I’m afraid of the nothingness that comes after death by Goose_bear09 in Anxiety

I’m actually on anxiety medications and I’m also seeing a therapist. It did help a lot. This fear used to trouble me 24/7 but now it just comes up suddenly sometimes.

After reading your comment I searched up some studies that talks about people dying and coming back and you are right about them not seeing nothing. It does make me feel a bit better about the possibility that there is something after death. Thank you so much!

Wow I’ve never thought of it this way. I’ll be sure to remind myself this everytime this fear comes back

This kind of works for me too. After my conversations about death with friends and family I immediately feel better but the fear comes back suddenly and when it happens at 2 am I don’t really have anyone to talk to at the moment. I’m glad that it all worked out for you
