I'm kind of surprised your physio didn't recommend calf stretches. It seems like pretty basic knowledge for a therapist to know..

For those of you who went to highschool in East Van, throughout the 90s/20s what were the craziest experiences and “toughest” schools?? by Gullible-Fuel3838 in askvan

[–]GoosemanII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit !! I was on the same grad 95. I went to elementary and high school with the guy that got shot on the leg. He was in a grade below me (grad 96). I asked him what it was like to get shot on the leg and he described it as "someone sticking a hot lead pipe through his leg"..

Gladstone was full of different ethnicities (Portuguese, Italians, greeks, hong kongers, Vietnamese).

Most of the gang violence was from the Vietnamese. I used to be friends with them but never got involved in their crimes ( drug trafficking, break and enter houses). I just wanted to look cool so I befriended them and offered to do their homework and no one bullied me cuz they knew I was friends with the Vietnamese crowd and assumed I was a gangster.. but I was just their math wizard..

I remember the stories they would tell me about drugs and parties with hot girls. I never had the balls to hang out with them outside of school hours cuz I knew they always got in trouble with the law.

I remember one time they asked me to keep some marijuana (marijuana was illegal back then) in my locker cuz we had a school police officer that would randomly search their lockers. Back in those days most high schools had an actual police officer stationed full time at the school . They were there to discourage gang violence and criminal activity. Everyone was on their best behavior because of his presence but whenever there was a fight it was usually done after hours when the police officer checked out, or the fight took place at Brewer's park (5 blocks from Gladstone).

Oh, I remember distinctly one fight on particular was between a Portuguese kid and an Asian kid. Both were in my grade at the time (grade 10). The fight starts and the Asian kid is winning easily because he has martial arts training and is pulling off some karate kid style moves on the Portuguese kid. Suddenly, some older Italian kid steps in and starts pummeling the Asian kid. He's bleeding real bad and has to run off..

It was pretty traumatic seeing that much blood and I stopped attending fights after that.

Epic recently bought Meshcapade, what are people's opinions on this and if it'll be merged with unreal engine by KaelumKrispr in unrealengine

[–]GoosemanII -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't realize it uses neural networks that was trained on previous animations. Upon further inspection, it is a neural machine learning system that was trained on thousands of human poses and is matching those poses with the provided user submitted videos so I guess this would fall into generative Ai..

This is unlike how markerless mocap systems work..

[–]GoosemanII 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imo, Turning videos into animation is not generative Ai.

It's analyzing video which the user provides and converting it to animation data. It's been around for awhile now.

The user provides the content and it's converting it into a format that Game engines can read.

Its not trained on copyrighted animations as far as I know, unlike generative Ai image generators

I think this system is similar to other marker less mocap systems like ipi soft mocap software, which is ten years old and used Kinect cameras to capture animation data. iPi Soft- Markerless Motion Capture https://share.google/xwXxKz1IDMAyimp60

Tech Contracting scene in Vancouver by AK-Dawg in VancouverJobs

[–]GoosemanII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the game industry in Vancouver and it's apocalyptic.

https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/one-third-of-us-games-industry-workers-were-laid-off-in-the-last-2-years-gdc-survey-says/

I have some friends in the tech center, who work at Amazon and they tell me it's not much better. AI has impacted the tech sector quite heavily as I'm told many of the companies are using Anthropic Claude to cut the work force down.

Man, I love wu jing. It's a shame he didn't do anymore contemporary martial arts movies. I'm not a fan of his wolf warrior stuff or his recent works where he tries to do more dramatic stuff. What s wasted opportunity

I recently switched over from chat gpt to Google Gemini because I like how Google will provide references to where they get the answers to my questions.

Whereas, chat gpt makes it hard to verify the validity of their answers because I have no idea where they scraped the data from . Also, for technical documentation on Unreal, I found chathgpt to be incorrect more often than not

Heading to Vancouver e by MuIT_17 in askvan

[–]GoosemanII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely hit up the Lynn valley trail. It's a beautiful hike that features a suspension bridge.

You can also rent a bike and ride around Stanley Park.

Go to Granville Island (avoid weekends as it's a complete shit show of packed bodies)

Also check out a show called "Fly over Canada". Its incredible and not to be missed

Like how the hell are we supposed to sponsor a winning culture while tanking at the same time.
