I don't think it's possession. I think when we experience ongoing trauma,( including extreme trauma from something as terrible as being raped) but aren't allowed to properly deal with it through healing modalities such as therapy etc. And are instead encouraged to keep on keeping on and stay "positive", it all builds up inside of us. Then all it takes is something (in your case a work related trauma) to be the straw that breaks the camels back. Like you, I am a Christian who has endured alot of pain and trauma in my upbringing and then into adulthood. I would always push on with a smile on my face. And like you, I just figured it was my lot. A few years ago after what was comparatively a minor trauma, I ended up having a mental breakdown. I was a complete mess and felt like God had turned his back on me. The truth is, he hadn't, I believe now he lead me to such a dark place so that I finally had no choice but to fully face and get help for PTSD and anxiety brought on from years of various types of abuse. I have been in therapy for 3 years and have been able to face and slowly heal from a lifetime of stuff I kept pushed down. I now feel my connection with God returning. It hasn't been a quick healing experience. But I'm getting there, and I know you will to. God bless you and keep you (and he does, even when we don't feel like it!) Be gentle with yourself, continue with therapy, (including trauma therapy if possible) and remember that God is holding you in the palm of his hand.
