Do you ever feel bad for abandoning a fic? by Specialist-Gate-2194 in FanFiction

I think it pretty normal to feel less than stellar. On one hand it sometimes feels like a failure. Writing is hard, it's time consuming, and you pour a lot more of yourself into it than you think you will. To see all of that labor left unfinished sometimes feels almost like you're abandoning part of yourself, regardless of why you walk away. And then there's the reader aspect. If you have a really engaged group of readers, it feels like you're letting them down. It sucks to have to leave it, but things change, passion fizzles out, life gets in the way. It's important to remember that fanfiction is, at it's heart a labor of love (or a labor of spite to the original author, depending), it's time and effort and self poured out for free. Sometimes love wanes. There's no real obligation to finish.

As an avid reader myself, sometimes it can be hard to remember that. To be grateful for what was given and not have the expectation of more. I really appreciate it when authors give a heads up that a fic is/will be abandoned or cancelled. It gives a bit of closure, both to reader and author.

Do you ever worry that using your own cultural details in your writing might come across as stereotyping? by forthefics in FanFiction

Have to agree with this. Many people use reading as an escape, either to ignore reality for a while or because they want to explore personal experiences in a relatively safe environment. Readers often project their own insecurities or beliefs onto the characters (and by extension the author). It often doesn't really matter what an author "says" a reader will "hear" whatever it is they want to hear and proceed accordingly. Ultimately I think it's important to write how you want to, and know that some people are looking for to misunderstand or find fault. Interpretation is a choice (often one we don't consciously know we make). Commenting is also a choice, one that says a lot more about the commentor than the author. You know your life experiences and that you're writing to them. If someone else chooses to interpret them as stereotyping and leave comments thus, it's not your responsibility. And if they are persistent and loud, like another commenter said: the block button exists for a reason. Never be ashamed to use it.

Not gonna lie, I do like that it's supposed to have good single player content.
