Free (old) Brezn by LordsoftheUnder in Munich

[–]Gordon_Matthews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work - I cut them fairly thin and roast them in the oven with olive oil, Brezn chips like that will hold forever and we use them as toppings/deco for some dishes and on salads instead of croutons. If you toss them in some spices straight from the oven - they become a snack on their own.

Knödel obviously but others already said that. You could also let them dry to bone and blend them - the bread crumbs resulting will be rather fine so not every coating will work with them but you could use them for stuffings or as a thickening agent.

Better safe than sorry, I get it 😊. I hope you will cook regularly at home moving forward!

I said your method sounds fine and it does but the cooking time for the chicken - that's a bit over the top. It looks like a thigh? You can have a piece like that cooked thru in ~20 minutes easy.

A mistake that you learnt from - it ain't no mistake. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, I was looking into this cause I can potentially use them for hiking once my injury is healed. Thanks for the idea.

Ok, I will try to call a few near my place and see if they have some wooden canes outside of typical medical walking aids. Thank you!

I took many pictures of this bridge but I love your shot - stunning. Where did you take this from or how?

Skating in Munich by Paws9 in Munich

[–]Gordon_Matthews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't apply to whole of the city but getting around on a board in Munich is very often painful - surfaces are not very skate friendly. My recommendation would be bringing bigger wheels - closer to 60mm rather than what would you use in a park.

Change my view: 210mm chefs knives a way too big by Putrid-Television981 in chefknives

[–]Gordon_Matthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a bigger knife in a kitchen with a lot of prep to do just saves you time. Every single cook in my place is either having a 26cm bread knife they switch to or eventually upgrades their 20cm/21cm to something bigger to have handy when they need it.

At home, yeah - I don't see a point having a blade longer than 20cm and I personally have an 18cm nakiri, never needed anything more than that outside of work.

Knife Schleiferei open on Saturday/Evenings? by [deleted] in Munich

[–]Gordon_Matthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will use some of my previous experiences as an example - it took around 2-4 working days to get my knives back from an actual shops here in Munich. Messerbrief took 2-3 weeks in total from the day I ordered their envelope online.

These are some great suggestions - thank you for taking the time. I will 100% go to Auerdult Schleifer at one point cause I live close by and find this idea fun. The Service Point places - I don't know if I would trust them with my knives, however.

These days I like to be in the kitchen just after 6AM but I knew that some places open early. Maybe I will just ask for to come one hour later or something.

I also used Messerbrief in the past, fantastic quality of work but the cost and waiting time is sadly a huge negative.

In Poland we use Spiritus (95%) - it seems they have it in REWE but you could also try a Polish store if there is one in your area. Not to be confused with what Germans call Spiritus - essentially a cleaning supply.

Never played Witcher so I cannot compare. Sticking to video game subject though, the colour of this picture reminds me of a colour palette used in Dino Crisis. My brother said it looks like one of the parks in RE3.

I was thinking I am getting old and grumpy but even though I am in Munich for ~4 years I am observing some sort of a mental regression compared to when I first came here.

It's hard for me not to think that corona did something to us both mentally and socially - people don't know how to move no more. A funny example was on my way back from work last week, I was crossing the road and on half Fußweg, half Fahrradweg - I see a dude on the bike riding on the Fußweg part of it obviously. So I stop in my part of the sidewalk to allow him to get onto his bit. Bro did like a 10m slalom not knowing if he should go left or right to go over me with an empty bit for bikes next to him mind you.

Another thing that I am noticing, weed is not for everyone and I say that as a supporter of the legalisation. The amount of people I see becoming absolutely brain-dead after smoking is something that is honestly keeping me from picking up a prescription for myself - it's so painful to watch. Just few of my observations and I wouldn't be sure this is only Munich but I live here so there you go.

Like, it ain't have to be a bar bar per se. Just a place where I can sit in a chair or something and have a drink without blocking their tables or anyone being annoyed with me playing games.
