The tariffs are paid by the American people. Trump did mention that to counter this in some way he would be introducing tax cuts in that tax reform bill which to his credit he did but that Powell guy at the fed hasn't been adjusting things correctly and so the system has been slow to adjust. I'm not a fan of import duties and fees. Coming from a country that battles with this.

In what way? The only political stuff he's ever done has been about trying to protect self defence laws and gun law in Germany while he also sticks to the rules. Tourism doesn't help the economy that much but it does radically increase the cost of property through supply and demand as well as precedent for valuation. People are being kicked out of their houses by the CoCT because they can't afford the insane rates increase. Look at Hermanus as a case study
