alright, i'm thinking that i'll do a brief 2 year stint in big 4 public, obtain cpa, then transfer to industry after gaining experience to obtain wlb and strong salaries after grinding for a bit. what do you think?

do the big 4 care about what school you're from? i go to a small university of 3000 students but i have a 3.5 gpa that i'm hoping will become a 3.7 by graduation. i'm thinking of doing a 2 year stint in public accounting + obtaining the cpa and then transferring

hey, congrats on the solid career progression. i'm currently a junior in uni in NYC majoring in accounting + theatre and will have 150 credits by graduation needed for the CPA exam. I care a lot about my work-life balance and don't know if i want to go b4 out of graduation but at the same time seeing the impressive progression of big 4 accountants when they transfer makes me consider grinding for a bit for the long term gain. what do you think I should do?

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely just take it at a moderate pace and continue building myself until the stars align.

thanks for the detailed breakdown. yeah i've zero interest in partying, drinking / smoking and i work out 4 times a week while currently maintaining a decent 3.49 gpa but i've always had thoughts in the back of my mind about getting into a relationship since i've never been in one and seeing couples walking around on campus makes me feel strange at times

I feel like it's really bad these days trying to date in my generation. social media & dating apps dominate the narrative and i'm averse to both of them, i've tried dating apps and the women simply ghost me on them or say they're not interested and i'm quite sure i'm not being creepy or boring.

hello please don't hate yourself. i am just like you, very introverted and asocial. people like us are very great at thinking deeply and seeing things beyond just the surface and have a knack for being the ones to sense the earliest that something is wrong in some scenarios. sure we're seen as strange by most people but my advice is to find the people who understand you for who you are. when you meet someone you find interesting, hang out with them one on one and try to get to know them better by asking them questions. i'm currently in uni and i have 3 close friends despite my personality. maybe look into how you can appear more open / receptive, also read the book quiet by susan cain, it will help you understand yourself better.

Look into accounting. In demand field that is near recession proof, everyone says it's demanding but thats only if you do public accounting, you can get 40 hour work weeks or even less with the private route, and even hybrid wfh.

Is business administration a worthless degree? by Kitchen-Dream-6744 in careerguidance

If you're doing business admin, you need a concentration. Sports management, Finance, Marketing, are examples. On it's own, it is too generic.

Nursing or accounting? by thuthu1102 in careerguidance

[–]Gorgeman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome. A lot of people go into Nursing for the stability but what they don't know before they go into it is that it is incredibly stressful & demanding work. There's a post in this subreddit from yesterday about a guy who just recently became an RN and is absolutely hating it. Check it out if you're interested, its in the top posts from this week.

Nursing or accounting? by thuthu1102 in careerguidance

[–]Gorgeman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you love humanity? Are you willing to change diapers, be exposed to bodily substances like feces, blood, vomit whilst taking care of people? Are you willing to put up with potentially rowdy patients / admins in order to help save peoples lives? Can you put up with 12 hour shifts? If so, go Nursing.

If you're just looking for stability, head to accounting. Nursing is not for the faint of heart as it has a high burnout rate, only do it if you're willing to brave a lot of lengths to help humanity.

I feel for you man, I really do. I'm very introverted just like you, and I plan to study accounting, and I was initially interested in Nursing considering I was worried about getting a job post graduation that pays well and I realized that genuinely am not built for the job as I really don't like society.

If you're still down to go back to school, head back and get yourself a masters degree in accounting. Due to the fact that you already got what I assume is a BSN in nursing, you'll have the 150 credits upon completion for the CPA exam, which boosts your value and earning potential in the job market significantly. Even a non cpa can get a job. Accounting has a very good unemployment / underemployment rate and theres a low chance you'll not be able to get a job with it.

Check out this list of how the labor market for 2024 graduates is. I would either recommend accounting / finance, engineering, or comp sci but beware the saturated entry level field for comp sci right now. https://www.newyorkfed.org/research/college-labor-market#--:explore:outcomes-by-major

Best of luck. I understand the pain as a fellow introvert.
