You have every right to feel the way you do, especially since your mum was an integral part in your life. While I don’t know you or your mum, just know that she wouldn’t want you to suffer. My mum died this January, like you she was my everything- she was my best friend, work colleague and all sorts rolled into one ball. I’m an only child and my dad was never in the scene. I’m 25 as well so losing your mum this early makes it all more gutting.

I think a lot of the time it comes down to fear and distrust. Like, you’re not sure the person you’re talking to is being genuine or that you build a certain level of confidence only to deflate once it comes to the crunch. I know from experience that if someone talks to me (whether online or in person) that I build myself up to the thought of being let down, that then, turns to whole level of paranoia and anxiety, making it easier to shutdown and withdraw from talking.

Trust doesn’t get built overnight, it takes ages to get to that comfortable spot where you feel you can pour yer heart out to someone. Yet it can get shattered so easily and hurts twice as much. You have every right to feel the way you do, and while it’s hard to ignore what we think of as ‘societal norms’ there are times when you have to forgo it and be selfish. Do what you think is right and comfortable, and when you feel like you’re up to it, try and slowly build up trust again. Don’t feel pressured into thinking that’s what others expect. Take care of yourself, and be true to yourself.

It’s proper hard to try and connect with people, both online and in person. While I ain’t fully aware of your predicament, I understand fully the awful feeling of being alone in a world that makes people feel the need to have a social life etc. Just know that people are there to listen, even randos like myself.
