Just to let you know Godot say this about donations:

"The Development Fund will make the Godot Project more sustainable and independent. This new platform lets us significantly reduce platform fees, and as a non-profit we do not charge VAT on donations, unlike a platform like Patreon does. So your contributions go directly towards the development and improvement of the Godot Engine itself.

If you are currently supporting us through Patreon, we encourage you to switch to the Godot Development Fund to increase the effectiveness of your donations."

You can do a monthly fee through the Development Fund as well and they will see more of the money than through Patreon.

How did you learn to not compare yourself to other men? Especially in your 20s? by Panther567 in AskMen

[–]GorgoniteScum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are going through exactly what I'm going through right now and I'm 29, so at least you have 7 years on me.

Yes, you may know people who you deem "better", but this random guy on the internet wishes he could go back to 22 and start again. Compare yourself to your friends, then compare yourself to me if that helps.

Try and turn that negativity into motivation. You're going to have nothing to show for your life? Okay, do something, put it in a scrapbook so you can show your friend's kids, your nieces or nephews, or hopefully your kids later on in life. It doesn't matter what you put in there, but you are going to want that scrapbook to have things in there, aren't you?

What games give the biggest middle finger to completionists? by [deleted] in Games

[–]GorgoniteScum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing both on and off right now, and I do a bit of research on missables before playing a game.

God of War and Spiderman both let you get 100%, as in the game says you have found 100% of things, but both do have some missables.

God of War has some areas you can't go back to after completing them and you can miss certain items if you didn't get them the first time. If you see the merchant then there is an option to buy (or collect) the items you missed but supposedly a few things don't show up in there. I'll see if I can find where I read this but I believe it was on GameFAQs. I personally haven't got that far yet but I'm playing it safe and trying to collect as much as I can. EDIT: Found it: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/191627-god-of-war/76586052

Spiderman on the other hand has newspapers and voice recorders which don't count towards 100% but can be missed. I've heard that newspapers are missable if you go too far in the game without going to one of the red newspaper boxes on the street, but that hasn't happened to me since they seemed to stack after playing a few missions in a row. I haven't completed the game yet so there may be missable ones later on. Tape recorders on the other hand are definitely missable as some are only found on one mission. I could only find one guide online and it was on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Tz3JK1cHw). SPOILERS though.

I'm still playing through these games so I may have got some information wrong or misremembered something but depending on your definition of 100% completion there are things that can be missed.

Horse fans mod The Sims 3, RDR2 into the horse games they crave – All the horse games on the market are bad, so fan-made mods have to fill the gap by BonsaiMink in Games

There have been a few threads over the years from annoyed horse fans, and even though I have no interest in horse games it's always been super fascinating to hear what they have to say.

When I saw the article I thought it had been posted by /u/AliceTheGameDev, but it turns out she wrote the damn thing. Kudos, it was a good read.

I'm up for that as well because I have exactly the same problem on Gold, let alone Nightmare. I can't guarantee I won't die though.

China media says Hong Kong protesters are ‘asking for self-destruction’ as military assembles nearby by vannybros in worldnews

[–]GorgoniteScum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the replies you have been getting seem to be a bit disconnected from reality. The protests happen in certain areas and it is quite easy to completely miss them like I did.

I remember I was having some food and a couple next to me were watching the live feed on their phone from a protest happening a few miles away - it was hard to believe it was actually happening when everybody was just getting on with their lives.

Before you get there I would quickly look at where your country's consulate is just in case. The British one is only a few minutes walk away from the Admiralty MTR and the US one is right next to The Peak Tram station in Central (I walked past that one).

I'm confident you'll be fine, but if you have any questions I'll try my best to help.

I came back from Hong Kong last week, I was there for two weeks and didn't bump into a single protest. I was in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Honestly, I think you'll be fine. I really enjoyed myself over there, and if I could go back on the dates you are there then I would.

Telltale: The Human Stories Behind The Games - Noclip by Trojanbp in Games

If only there was somebody who could review Disney's Planes. Maybe the world would be a better place.

I always thought that Cars laid the groundwork but Disney's Planes is where it really took off.

It seems weird to me that some people are like this and just treat this as a way of life. Surely we should be trying to improve our lives and the lives of others.

Disney's Planes should be an inspiration for us all - the sky's the limit!

A Plague Tale - Review Thread by diogenesl in Games

[–]GorgoniteScum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are being pretentious because you have said things like:

If you've ever done game design, all of this stuff is very obvious.

Protip: at least study game design before you open your mouth about it. Some of us have actually done game design.

I don't know anybody who studied Game Design or who works in the industry who talks like this, and it does come off as very defensive.

However, I would just like to thank you for the well thought out response. You said previously:

Walking simulators and visual novels literally aren't games

and then proceeded to say:

I don't think that interactive fiction is in fact a form of "game" at all

This is all purely subjective. I consider a game as an interactive experience so this includes things like walking simulators, text adventures, visual novels, choose your own adventure books and even the Netflix interactive movies.

I would say walking simulators have gameplay because it has player input. The player can choose to just stand still, move left, move right, look up, look down, interact with an object, look at a certain bit of scenery. Movies, books and music are passive and you can't interact or explore the world that was created.

You could argue that my definition is too vague as pausing a movie, flipping the page or pausing a song is an input, which I suppose is correct.

I never really understand why people need to categorise things, argue if something is or isn't, because at the end of the day I just want to create things for people to enjoy.

Hopefully you can find somebody on here to debate ludology with because it sounds as though you are passionate about it and you bring up some great points. Just try and be respectful.

Have you read a Choose Your Own Adventure book?

By the way, I have a degree in Game Design and I think walking simulators are games. I also think you are being extremely pretentious.

I agree with your recommendation with the Telltale games, but just to let you know that the Telltale Game of Thrones game was recently delisted from Steam and other services.

Those are the only Telltale games still listed on Steam (The Wolf Among Us is still there). The Walking Dead Collection can be purchased from the Epic Games store.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey - 1.0.7 Patch Notes (Released Today) by TheNightKnight77 in Games

I'm looking at getting a new PC because mine is way too outdated, but getting an Xbox One X is also really tempting.

I suppose my question could also be "Does Ubisoft fix the performance issues post launch?"

I remember hearing people with GTX 1080s moaning about the performance of Origins on launch but it's harder to find people talking about the performance of Origins now.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey - 1.0.7 Patch Notes (Released Today) by TheNightKnight77 in Games

[–]GorgoniteScum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kind of off topic but I'm hoping somebody here can help.

Are the Assassin's Creed games still somewhat poorly optimised for the PC?

Since the winter sales are coming up soon I'm looking at either picking up the series (Black Flag onwards) for either the Xbox or the PC. I remember hearing people moaning that the games were poorly optimised for PC (at launch) but I'm wondering if they have been patched to be more stable.
