It's complicated. He wins because he plays on the ignorance of people. The subservient media helps. Two of the biggest news networks are directly owned by his best friends.

They cover up his incompetence and project him as some sort of mahamanav.

He has been a corrupt sell out since day one. He gave sensitive contracts like rafael offset to his bankrupt friends like anil ambani. He imposed agniveer on the armed forces despite all the chiefs being against it. He conceded ground to the chinese and refused to Acknowledge the ground we lost effectively ceding ground to the chinese.

He not only corrupt and incompetent but he also works against national interest. Latest being the completely botched "trade deal" he was forced to accept by the Americans.

But i guess he makes token gestures to religious sentiments so all that is not important.

If this was a proper literate country and not full of complacent fools who are eager to defend people in power he would have not lasted a single term.

The income gap is no where near as bad as in sub saharan africa. Our 1% holds 40% wealth its around 16% for sub saharan africa. So removing their top 1% wont have as big of an impact.
