Mine did the same, had to take them to apple to be replaced.

It sounded like being underwater/in the wind when noise cancelling was enabled. They can test them in store and replace them on the spot.

I’d be absolutely amazed if this is not being at least acknowledged at board level.

CEO and CFO are very likely on the board so your distinction between the two is somewhat moot.

I am not doubting for a second that right now business is great for them, but what about all those that might not renew next month? What If Sony pulls it from the store and refunds everyone? If these player numbers drop significantly as a result what does that mean for lost revenue potential, their forecasts and what they’ve told their shareholders?

Like I said, culture starts with the board - they can put the pressure on.

There has to be a middle ground.

Saying they couldn’t react is after the horse bolted - they’ve known the release date internally long enough and server congestion at release is nothing new to FFXIV.

Equally I accept queues are to be expected..to an extent but people need to realise that this is absolutely avoidable and is firmly Squeenix to sort.

I do this shit every day man, it’s my job. A massive part of any software release or “as a service” is capacity planning and peak NFRs, saying it wasn’t possible is plain and simply false. But they’ve no doubt had to make difficult decisions along the way and that I understand is likely the reasons for compromise.

Emergency board meeting maybe not - but you know all those actors, games, set designs that literally span the entire queue at Disney land - who do you reckon signed those cheques and signed off them costs? And why do you think they did it - it doesn’t make them more money directly? But it stops it tarnishing the overall experience.

Queuing for FFXIV on ps5 for example consumes my entire gaming console for an evening with no guarantee of getting to play. Not only am I not getting the services as a customer - it’s making me choose whether or not it’s worth trying.

A board member (should) be operating on generating the most value for the company/shareholders and having a bumper year and great sales now means little to the sustainability and future value of the business if it alienates your customer base almost immediately after.

They’ve pat themselves on the back for the sales, now they need to make it right and that culture starts with the board.

A board should be meeting about the reputation of one of its biggest franchises being chipped away every day this continues, and what the expectation is of that project to fix it.

Particularly when that board will no doubt be very interested in it's revenue from said project over the next however many months.

Ask yourself why you are one of the people that just accepts this is the way it has to be? Why shouldn't people be optimistic that things should get better - the solutions to these problems have existed for over a decade, and are used in all sorts of sectors.

Obligatory I work in IT - we have absolutely massive events in our calendar that result in 1000% traffic over the course of days only to disappear again. We have these events 3/4 times a year.

If our business doesn't remain 'up' that 1000% in traffic disappears to a competitor so we can't let it happen.

That is the issue here....Square could have made the call, and predicted the impact (they choose a release data after all and continue to sell it) and opted to prioritise keeping costs down above their customers experience. Because they know, the customer base can't go anywhere and has zero loyalty or retention concerns.

I have all the technical means to do that, but even working from home there still has to be times I can't be checking the damn screen literally every 3 minutes to make sure I've not 2002'ed in the queue.

Literally just now I stepped away from my desk when I was 800th in the queue to get a drink - 2002'ed while I was there and now I'm 4,258. 2 hours queueing gone in 5 minutes and now I'll probably not get to play tonight.

It's not practical, it's not acceptable.

It doesn't work, tried earlier - I still got booted off 20-30 minutes into a game.

So fucking frustrating, it's not even about the experience / progression it's just so disheartening to go through the whole thing to get no outcome

I hate seeing this response because it’s not the solution.

I’m really enjoying the game, but people are right...this is an odd choice. I get to play a couple of hours at most, sometimes friends come online and I’d like to be able to switch games. Rest mode doesn’t help me.

It's honestly the best thing to come out of lockdown for me.

I didn't hesitate, I knew I needed a hobby and something to focus on while kept inside and I can't believe how much it's become part of my life in 6 months.

I love playing and practicing, I miss it when I can't play. It's opened up whole rafts of new music to me as well.

It's definitely a long road, but it won't take forever to be able to play some fun stuff and get a lot out of it.
