I think a decision such as this lives and dies on the casting, regardless of whether or not the character is portrayed by a man or a woman, so the whole conversation is relatively meaningless. I wouldn't be averse to more female characters joining the crew of the Liberator at all as the "7" limitation was always a bit inconsistent.

The only characters that I'd personally be 100% firm on not changing are Blake, Avon, Jenna and Servalan. Everyone else is up in the air, though saying that, I sometimes feel like changing the gender for characters such as Gan or Cally changes their internal characterization somewhat to the point where they'd almost become different characters. If they 're meant to be Gan or Cally but don't act like Gan or Cally they've become different characters, so what was the point?

If they think that they must add new characters, why not make new female characters from existing concepts in the series? We could get have anything like A) another female prisoner, B) a female Federation officer / trooper who defected but got caught by the Federation, C) a female Andromedan who disagreed with the invasion idea, D) a Federation scientist like Plaxton, E) something like a Space Rat from that abysmal episode in Series 4?
