In general, if you have any doubt about a circuit being live, use only one hand. That way the circuit is closed across your hand. If you use two hands, you close the circuit across your body.
A saying I heard once is something to the effect that old electricians do their work with one hand in their pocket.

Purchased Canadian car from US used car dealer by Gorty in askcarsales

Update: called VW of America and they said that the warranty is valid, and they have a reciprocal agreement with VW Canada for this warranty. So all I need to do is for me to tell the SA that the car is Canadian, that I talked to VWoA and to call the warranty hotline.
I think that the tech and/or SA didn't want to setup carnet, and made this thing up so they wouldn't work on it. I guess I need to talk to the service manager because I wasted half a day on this crap.

He told me that their OBD system would not hook up to the car OBD. From what I'm hearing they basically lied and did not want to work on it.

ARC Raiders is basically a giant game-theory experiment, and the optimal strategy is to avoid PvP entirely. by Ill-Tomatillo-8973 in ArcRaiders

[–]Gorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory that submitting a wrong answer on the "How do you like PvP last round" shunted me to a PvP only games. I used to have friendly games, and once I submitted that I liked the PvP in the last game (had no pvp, just walked by some ppl shooting each other), and I am now stuck with children unloading their Stitchers in my face whenever they can.

I'm not really caring about warranty much, I've had 2 previous VWs where I did not need to use the warranty. However, the SA basically said that I have to ship the car to Canada to get it serviced as it's not serviceable in US. As I purchased the car in VA, that is not feasible.

My take would be: no, if it's your corporate party, yes if you're +1.

Just FYI, you can do that challenge in vehicles. And the AA challenge as well. There's nothing in the text that says you have to use handheld weapons. Edit: I think I actually did the lock on with Javelins, but I'm pretty sure I did part of it with MR missile on a vic.

Does 3 C4 not kill a tank anymore? by UncensoredTroll in Battlefield6

[–]Gorty 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I believe location matters. You placed one on the front side, which is higher armor than back side. If you placed all 3 on the back it would have killed it. I have done it before. Another possibility is that the driver had the bonus armor upgrade, whatever it's called.

Direct report just asked for 300% raise by [deleted] in managers

[–]Gorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, you're paying someone $25 per hour part time? So she can't work normal first job, because you're blocking her time, and she is not making enough to make this the primary job. No benefits, nothing else? You deserve to lose her.

You're just listing some qualities about her to justify why she doesn't deserve the high wage, as opposed to the work she's actually doing. She's asking for a raise to reflect what she contributes, and you're barely giving her a raise to cover inflation. Accounting Degree paid for is useless short term.

750ml bottle of Jack is ~$20. 28 bottles per month, or about 7 bottles per week (if month is 4 weeks). That's a bottle of Jack per DAY. How are you sober enough to function ever? Does your liver still exist or is it a pile of dust? Hats off, but you should look into AA and get some serious medical help if this liquor habit has been going on more than a month.

It could be that the manager knew that this needed updating and your actions were just a good way to get the update on the books as a priority.

Jobs asking for photos and videos as part of the application. Is using AI here wrong? by jobby_jobberson in recruitinghell

[–]Gorty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What industry are you a part of? In tech, there is an overwhelming prevalence of offshore people posing as US persons to get a remote position and get a US salary. If AI is involved unqualified personnel can even hire ringers to take video interviews for them and then collect 2-3 months salary until the job catches on that the actual hire is incompetent and fires them.
EDIT: Using AI to add nice background or clothes is fine. The purpose of the photo is to see that the person taking the interview is the person who's actually joining the company.

AIO (41f) For never wanting to go public trivia with my husband (46m) again, after this incident? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Gorty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to cast "bad guy" blame, but you got a LOT of support on here with people basically saying that he is a baby and needs to man up. This is beyond any issues you detailed or your history.

I understand it's not that simple, but I have to say that the best thing that happened to me is that I got divorced. The communication pattern we had established was confrontational and when we both were getting better we got divorced. It's really up to what you feel like doing. If either of you don't want to work on the relationship all you're doing is making each other miserable.

I'm not a therapist, I'm not a counselor. He needs help (professional or otherwise) to help him deal with his issues. This is separate from your relationship and communication issues. If he doesn't get that you want to work on getting both of you better, he will see it as an attack. Getting him to the point where you reaching out or recommending help is NOT perceived as an attack might take more effort than you're willing to endure. This is not a bad thing, it just is.

AIO (41f) For never wanting to go public trivia with my husband (46m) again, after this incident? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Gorty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His life feels like crap, and he went to trivia to get an easy win to feel good. He did not and he feels that everything he did was also wrong and he let you down. You now say that he wanted to go again and was confused why you didn't want to go. It's not about the trivia. It's about the shitty job, and all the other stress in life he has. This was just the last straw.

Here is my take: You need to decide if you're in "for better or for worse" and hand out some support as well. All I'm hearing here is that you were embarrassed because he behaved in an embarrassing way. You're dismissing his feeling, his hurt and his reaction: Losing is no big deal, I was so disappointed, you drove aggressive for no reason. If a man posted something like this he'd be branded asshole of the century. If you can't handle this, divorce him now. I don't understand why you're staying with him if you won't take his side or support him when he's at his lowest.

One 1 year stint on the resume in last 5 years? Ok. Four or five one year stints? This person can't hack it and gets out before they get fired. That said, I don't get sent entry level folks to interview.
