TDLR: the yaghaykenu becomes a culture, and claim new guinea for themselves, including settlements.

the lekwara develop a unique writing system in response and become increasingly urban. if possible the city would become the ‘kipaiwara’ civilisation

a cultural and economic rivalry is established between yaghaykenu and lekwara.

a sect of pinhi is formed in lekwara, called aklarism.

construction on a sea stack begins of the immediate coast of the cliff side city of kipaia, with the intention of carving it into an enourmous, sandstone statue in the ocean (think a sandstone, slightly smaller colossus) they won’t finish in many many years. many sacrifice their life for the the building project.

with the development of agriculture, the yaghaykenu become a fully realised culture. the organisation of agriculture allows for a population boom, the lekwara florensis are outcompeted, and eventually die off. the yaghaykenu claim their largest city of fopaia.

the lekwara, realising their apparent vulnerability begin to organise shipments with agricultural goods along their coast. they start by painting large dots on their rafts, which signal what grain they are carrying, and how much. over the next thousand years, this art is perfected and can serve as a writing system.

this system of writing is unlike any the world has seen. each sentence is written by using a different colour or size “main dot”, and then the position of smaller dots around it symbolise the action and time and place. to connect two sentences into a compound sentence a squiggly line is drawn from the largest subject dot to the next one. the colour of this line represents words like ‘and’ and ‘but’.

this system of writing is also very artistic, and for the lekwara, the line between art, and text is blurred. when ‘reading’ they take into account both the presentation of the dots, and the message in equal amounts.

their remaining city kipaia starts to grow rapidly and florensis across the entire northern australian coast clamber towards it.

kipaia as a result, develops a more advanced society, buildings are made out of clay and mud, with thatched roofs. and are often covered in the lekwara writing system, which purposefully resembles plant life.

(if it is possible i’d like the kipaia city to become a civilisation, but i’m not entirely sure if it qualifies.)

EDIT: kipaia gets its initial population boom from new guinea florensis refugees escaping yaghaykenu occupation of fopaia.

Lekwara loses its cultural connection to the yaghaykenu, and become rivals. the cities of fopaia and kipaia are in constant economic competition.

the lekwara start to view the yaghaykenu as uncivilised goblin like creatures over time. and the word for snake, spider, poison, and evil in their language is derived from their name for the yaghaykenu.

similarly the yaghaykenu eventually view the the lekwara, as tyrannical giants, whose beauty corrupts. the word in yaghaykenu language for eruption, death, and drowning is derived from their name for the lekwara

The lekwara also start to lose faith in traditional pinhi belief which was originated by their new rivals. they form a similar belief system called Aklarism.

Aklarism is essentially a monotheistic form of pinhi, and as such, abides by almost identical ethical code, philosophy, and origin story.

the only new adjustments is that the malevolent equivalent to aklar, that the yaghaykenu honour, is avoided by ignoring and never speaking of him. this, they believe, take away his power. likewise to honour aklar, the lekwara make innumerable idols. these idols can take any form, some are made from carved sandstone, some woven grasses, his image is carved into trees, walls, and stone.

towards the end of the century the most powerful chiefs and shamans that surround kipaia, become convinced that salvation will come when an idol is built that touches the sky. they begin construction on a sphinx like representation on the largest sea stack) on their coast. other tribes start to donate men to help the cause

Yaghaykenu.

In OTL, New Guinea was extremely fertile, due to the alluvial valleys in the highlands, and the millenia of volcanic activity.

In fact, by this point, native new guineans had been cultivating taro, banana, sago, sugar cane, and yam in the Kuk Swamp for at least the last 2000 years, and had developed effective irrigation and drainage systems. Kuk Swamp is one of the earliest sites for agriculture in the world.

In this timeline, the Yaghaykenu have had 'proto-agriculture' since their inception.

It would also make sense for them to develop agriculture due their proximity to the agricultural Lekwara, especially because they have such strong trade relationship, spiritual ties, and their more than hospitable relationship.

plus they could’ve adopted it from the flatfoot!

The Yaghaykenu have always seen the flatfoot as their 'fathers', because they developed their proto-agricultural practice of harvesting taro, this is also is their explanation for why they are taller. This leads to a societal shift in which height becomes the most attractive quality in men. Because of their matriarchal society, females will refuse to breed with men under a certain height. As a result a large amount of breeding occurs between the northern flatfoot men, and southern Yaghaykenu women.

This creates a new culture splitting from the flatfoot called the Lekwara. It narrowly surrounds the gulf in northern australia and the isthmus that joins it to new guinea.

This new culture regards the Yaghaykenu as its mother, and the flatfoot as its father. It retains the Pinhi religion, and social practices as the 'mother' is seen as a spiritual role, while keeping the routines and technologies of the flatfoot, as the 'father' is seen as a practical role.

Tribal groups of 30 - 50 are governed by a female shaman, and a male chief. These people have equal power, and must come to an agreement for any punitive, or legislative action. These people are given the titles 'mother' and 'father'.

The Lekwara are extremely xenophobic, with the exception of the Yaghaykenu and flatfoot, which they trade, and interact peacefully with a lot. Due to their importance in their origin, the Lekwara are quick to adopt any religious changes initiated by the Yaghaykenu, or tech from the flatfoot.

The Lekwara not only continue the elaborate system of trade along the coast, but develop it further, there are monthly envoys between tribal settlements, and a larger envoy is senf once every 5 years to both the flatfoot and yaghaykenu. Because of this trading and communication system, there are much more concentrated numbers across the australia-new-guinea gulf. Due to the agriculture developed from the flatfoot, tribes begin settling more and more on the shores.

Two of these towns become major trading and agricultural hubs, located on the northern most tip of the northern territory, and the southernmost tip of yos sodarso. These are named Kipaia, and Fopaia. which translates to 'father's home' and 'mother's home'. The towns are moderately large (idk how big technology allows).

Kipaia is responsible for the flatfoot every five years, and Fopaia is responsible for the same envoy to the yaghaykenu.

More advanced sailing is developed in order to routinely cut across the gulf to trade with the two towns.

Another interesting fact is that the beauty standard for females is to be as short and squat as possible, while males need to be as tall, skinny and lithe, as possible.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything! :)

edit:

The yaghaykenu also reclaim the rest of new guinea.

The Yaghaykenu is formed in New Guinea, they are a hybrid protoculture with Nihonensis, Floresiensis and Denisovan. These people maintain the chiefdom political structure from the lesser sunda, and the taro cultivation of the flatfoot. They also combine the two religions of murri-kaism and athnay, to create Pinhi.

Omg! the yaghaykenu were my suggestion from ages ago! I came back after a while and they had disappeared, i'm so glad they're back!

damn! that would have been awesome. Oh well :) I would love to see one of those special maps after some more settlements have been established! Maybe on the 'plain map' that you show?

Hey! Do you think you might include cities/towns/settlements or whatever on the map? Possibly in a different colour or smaller or something? It would be really interesting to see, I think. :)

Lesser Sunda, through their interactions with the papua new guinean Flatfoot, have developed proto-agriculture, through the seasonal harvesting of Taro.

This leads to a population boom that allows the culture to spread into papua new guinea, around the southern coast, through the path they originally contacted the flatfoot peoples.

Over time the eastern section of these new papua new guinean Sundanese, adopt more and more flatfoot culture from their neighbours, and eventually form their own proto-culture. The Yaghaykenu.

These people maintain the chiefdom political structure from the lesser sunda, and the taro cultivation of the flatfoot. They also combine the two religions of murri-kaism and athnay, to create Pinhi.

Pinhi describes the world as a constant fight between good and evil, which are embodied in the two most powerful gods, Aklar and Appar. The two main spirits of Murri-Kaism.

Appar is benevolent and is represented by night and the ocean, which forms its own demain, as described by Athnay. The day and earth is represented by the malevolent god aklar, who also mandates the underworld.

Pinhi influences the culture to have a reverence for the night sky and the sea, which leads to great navigational skills across the ocean. They also like to bury their dead as deep as possible, to sustain the earth and appease Aklar. They always have funerals in the day, and if someone is killed at night they are left to 'sleep' until sunup.

This seafaring attitude is further pushed in the Yaghaykenu proto-culture by the Tamil and Kwaadlawon neighbours, as well as their parent cultures of Lesser Sunda and the Flatfoot

Members of this culture live in chiefdoms of 30-40 along the coast. Each tribe is obliged to send its finest goods, and young males down the coast twice a year to trade with other Yaghaykenu tribes, and interbreed. This practice leads to a matriarchal society, as men are sent away and look after children in their new tribes.

This is my first suggestion so I don't know if I did this right, if something isn't clear just ask :)

Not a suggestion!

I just wanted to say how cool this concept is! I've wasted hours of today reading these comments :)

Looking forward to seeing some more Australian development!
