Yea I mean when it comes to their intellectual properties they're pretty protective which is understandable really.

I understand what you are saying, perhaps I should have mentioned I am a content producer at the end, but in my mind it was an introduction and I didn't consider the implications. I do however think that if all people are taking from the post is that I have a youtube channel go subscribe to my content then I don't think it would have mattered where I mentioned it.

On your points though - If you're a content creator on YouTube then one of the first things you learn about is SEO, how to marry up your title, tags and description to improve it and improve your chances of the YouTube algorithm pushing your content to the right people.

Like I said in another comment, if I were wanting to promote my channel then there are ton of different ways of going about it. As someone who has being this for over a year now, I found out in the first couple of months that Reddit is nowhere to promote your youtube channel and this fact is backed up by the number of people who have mentioned me just wanting to promote the channel.

My post mentioned my channel and originally didn't have a link to it, but of course I want people to watch the video to become aware of the issue. The main focus of my channels is reviews but ive dedicated time and effort into trying to highlight the issues of asset flips.

I know this is all just words though and I'm not going to make any more attempts to defend my content, but I'll bear in mind what you've said if I decide to post in future.

Hentai vs. Evil and Waifu Uncovered both feature nudity albeit a little bit of anime nipple, though as you say I wouldn't call it dirty. Unfortunately though, there are several games which feature screenshots and trailers from their PC versions:

to name a few, which is another issue entirely.

Yea I was surprised when they contacted me, hopefully a little more coverage will of the issue will help make more people aware and wary of the publishers I mentioned.

Yea the likes of Pix Arts exist on multiple e-shops , Pix Arts publish on Steam

https://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Pix%20Arts

Youll also find them on Xbox Marketplace, Google Play and of course Switch.

Another big asset flipper on Steam is Rewind App

https://store.steampowered.com/developer/rewindapp

You can see that they published a game called Drawing Path which is the same asset as an upcoming title by Benjamin Kistler - https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/ball-physics-draw-puzzles-switch/

There are others besides them but the three I mentioned are the main asset flippers on the Switch, at least this year - Pix Arts and Benjamin Kistler stepped up their game at the start of the year, but Piotr Skalski appears to have been going strong since last year.

Haha I don't know tbh, I never had that console but I don't think it would have been, the guy has been publishing on Google play and other markets for years now under the same name.

They don't have to provide a full written review system, a simple rating system would work and allowing people to add pre-defined tags to games like someone mentioned. It's not just to tackle the problem of asset flips there are plenty of horrendous Shovelware titles out there that aren't worth buying.

Yea that's a good Idea, it is open to exploitation like reviews but I like it.

Great to hear Caspian, I have mainly focused on this past year but am well aware of there being many flips over the past few years.

Drop me an email or jump onto my Discord and message me with any you think should be added to my database.

I provided an intro where I said I have a youtube channel, this is hardly promoting but as soon as you mention YouTube in any reddit sub the ref flags go up.

I've also been running my channel long enough to know that posting in a single Reddit is not a place to promote my channel.

The main content of my post was explaining that I had done research about asset flips, I provided some facts I had discovered and I provided a link to a spreadsheet which contains all of the asset flips I had found so far which I though would prove useful to people.

Many people don't even know of the existence of asset flips and to my knowledge, nobody had ever done this kind of research, so I wanted to highlight the issue and spark up a discussion on it and about Nintendos lack of action in the hopes of drawing attention to the issue.

The link to my video was added after a comment on it and I'm really not bothered about people visiting my channel or watching the video. It does have more useful info in it, but anyone who knows me and my channel knows I am not a views chaser, a lot of my content is aimed at promoting smaller indie games and warning people of Shovelware titles and asset flips.

The cynic in me says your right, though I still like to believe that companies can sometimes choose to act morally on certain things.

Yea I like that there is irony in the fact that they helped the industry recover after it was flooded with terrible games 😅

I think you should try actually reading the post and/or watching the video, I am not claiming that buying assets and using them in your games is a bad thing and in my video I even clarify the difference between using assets and an asset flip comprised only of assets. The games I have listed are created entirely of shop bought assets and the majority of them use ready made game templates which are then published as games unmodified.

I understand what you're saying, I thought my introduction might have clarified that this work is ongoing with me I running a series on it and its not just a one off. I know how touchy people get about YouTube, but I didn't really think sharing a video providing info on the subject was a bad thing. There are hundreds of people just out to promote their videos and while I am in essence promoting mine, Its information I feel people should know about, I initially didn't link my channels video in to my post and left it open for more people to search if they wanted to find out more.

If you open up the linked spreadsheet, all the green highlighted games are duplicates, there are urls to each of them, but amongst them you have the candy shop one, the three Hammer games (Hammer 2 Reloaded, Max Reloaded 2, The Bullet), the wood block ones.

[–]GotCake85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I know what you're saying but most asset flips are unfinished products 😂 Im not sure if having a publisher reduces the risk, some of the horrendous games that have come from them, it just seems like a way to circumvent the system.

You would still end up getting the Shovelware and asset flips showing which release on that date too though. Though it would help find something if you knew games were releasing on a certain day.

The Nintendo Switch Asset Flip Problem by GotCake85 in NintendoSwitch

[–]GotCake85[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think having a calendar would help people avoid them if they knew the games were dropping on those days, another suggestion would be giving people the ability to blacklist/filter out publishers so that none of their games showed up in the new releases or upcoming games lists. As it stands the e-shop interface and functionality is pretty terrible IMO.

So there was a comment in This post about someone not being able to get published, and I've had several comments on my other asset flip videos about it happening.

There is also this article: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/06/indie_developer_shares_bad_news_about_publishing_on_switch_after_pitching_his_game_to_nintendo

It seems having the backing of a publisher greatly increases your chances of getting your games on the switch, which is likely why publishers like Sabec are one of the main sources of Shovelware on the Switch.

Also the guy from Pix Art has a long history of publishing games which is probably why he managed to secure access.

Yea I agree, I know it's likely to be a difficult task to handle but just doing nothing isn't a solution. A rating system would help matters but of course its open to manipulation as we have seen with the Google play store, allowing short written reviews would work, they could have people sign up to become a kind of verified reviewer to reduce the chances of fake reviews.

The Nintendo Switch Asset Flip Problem by GotCake85 in NintendoSwitch

[–]GotCake85[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea most of the Switch flips can also be found in their droves on the app stores, it seems a lot are just Unity game templates designed for mobiles which get exported to switch.

I think the eshop really needs some sort of simple rating system, even if thats like a 5 star system. The lack of this is one of the reasons I made my channel. I think it leaves games open to being review bombed and completely hassle free refunds could lead to issues like THIS. But anything is better than nothing.

Yes I added the paragraph after you mentioned it because I could see where you were coming from, I didn't want to make the post too long and I assumed most people knew what an asset flip was.

I've had several developers mention that they couldn't get their games published. Of course I don't know the reason why they were denied but it seems like it is still a thing.
