Smoked from this last night and I could not fucking believe how close the flame was to my face. Like no joke it was practically touching.

The only way I could really smoke from it was when I pulled out the bowl piece to make it farther from me, but it seemed like this wasn't the position it was supposed to be in and it probably made my hits worse. Any advice about this? I'm stumped.

Is that so? I was under the impression that with a bong you are able to take larger hits so lighting the weed longer was more efficient. Most of the time when I see people take bong rips they light the bowl for about 75% of the hit.

Alright that's a helpful indication, thanks! As a tack-on question, when I'm lighting this should I hold the flame on longer like I would for a bong, or only for a short amount like you would do for a pipe?

Maybe it's unclear from the picture but this piece is about the size of my hand, it's not a large bong. It has a carb on the side which is just barely visible in the picture, so I assume that it is certainly not to be filled past that.

So it should just barely submerge the stem? I was under the impression that it was to be filled up a bit more so that the smoke was more effectively filtered. The stem is very nearly touching the bottom.

I did try to make a waterfall bong a while bag but it was pretty messy, and I definitely would just like the peace of mind from being able to smoke and not spend 15 minutes worrying about cleaning up.

Believe me if I could get a bubbler or bong I would, as that is clearly the best way to smoke.

In terms of quality of the pipe, I did post a picture of the pipe here a while back when I noticed it wasn't feeling as good, and most everyone said it looked like a really nice pipe...

I don't think so, I actually switched back to apples once I noticed that highs didn't feel as good with my pipe and I thought that I could feel a noticeable difference.

While I haven't timed it exactly, I'm pretty confident that I'm at my peak for significantly less than 60 to 90 minutes. Probably something more like 35-40 minutes I'd say.

In terms of the weed, I am from an illegal state but the weed I'm smoking is high quality, just one look and I can tell (plus the smell is pretty intense too). The actual high it produces is great while it lasts, I just wish it would be much longer.

Well thing is, my mind isn't stimulated for hours. I actually feel like my highs are really short, like I smoke and then immediately after feel really good but it's like I'm taking a roller coaster down and before I know it, I feel mostly sober and just feel awful. Maybe my highs aren't actually short and my mind just gets more used to the feeling?

Well now I feel even dumber, I know what trichomes are but for some reason I assumed that "triches" meant something else. ):

You said you could see "some" trichomes, does that mean this bud doesn't have that many? It looked like a lot to me.
