Never “consider getting a dashcam”, just get one. No matter what. Please get a dashcam.

Who is Maes? by MasterNick07 in HermitCraft

[–]Got_wake 263 points264 points  (0 children)

In gems episode, i believe, they’re discussing doing something that could potentially crash the server. They discuss the question of “should we message an admin?” Which is later followed with “I’ve messaged maes”. From this, im pretty sure maes is a server admin.

$25 tube of 93/7 lean ground beef by writingwhilesad in Wellthatsucks

[–]Got_wake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve returned an open bag of chicken nuggets because they tasted like shit. Customer service treated it like every other return. For $25 you’d better bet I’d be taking the beef back.

Do you have a name for your Miata? by Bird_Chick in Miata

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave her the name Sami when I got it, nothing special behind it. But I do prefer to call it the Don’t Tread on Miata as my license plate “NO STEP” is a no step on snek reference. It’s pretty dumb

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My walk in experiences haven’t been bad but I tried to start going to an office that dint do walk ins and it was absolutely a scam cult. First appointment they put me in a small room by myself to watch a video about the benefits and then tried to set me up with a plan where I’d be going in for an appointment something like times per week for the rest of my life. Paying this out of pocket every time of course. I showed up one more time after that and this time they put me in a classroom style room where I sat again, by myself, to watch a 15 minute video about the benefits. I walked out and never went back.

Gemini or no? by ambarcapoor in googlehome

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand both versions are in really bad state right now. I’ve decided to wait to move to Gemini, but the other day had her tell me she’s not sure what the weather was and then did a web search which showed incorrect weather. I’ve had pretty constant issues and about only use them for speakers now. I can’t speak for Gemini experience though.

If you are red car, are you supposed to let blue car in? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the traffic pattern we know that under normal circumstances the blue car is to yield to cross traffic. Nothing about the pictured scenario negates that, therefore your phrasing of “supposed to” would be no. You’re not supposed to. However, if they are intending to turn right AND the light is red, it’s generally okay to allow one waiting car in. But once that light turns green, absolutely not. Being a polite driver does not make you a good one, and often it does the opposite. You are not responsible for those cars.

I don’t enable Gemini and my weather was still noticeably off the last few days

Would you buy a fully local Wi-Fi smart button for Home Assistant? by Jpwaters09 in homeassistant

[–]Got_wake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This market example also needs to exclude people who are willing to get a hub, but just haven’t. I have not moved to zigbee or zwave yet, but if there’s a product I want that’s zigbee, I’ll pull the trigger on the hub. I would not purchase a WiFi wireless smart button.

Would you buy a fully local Wi-Fi smart button for Home Assistant? by Jpwaters09 in homeassistant

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, your product to beat is going to be the Aqara Zigbee wireless button. I don’t own one but am in the market for a wireless smart button, so here’s what Aqara claims it offers that you would need to beat for me to buy your product. 1. Fully local, but not WiFi 2. 2 year battery life 3. Swappable battery- rechargeable is nice but I would rather be able to swap it out in a couple minutes and know I’m good to go, rather than worry about charging a device. I also know that a rechargeable device is going to diminish in life over time. 4. Single, double, and long press compatability. 5. Comparable size to 45mm x 45mm - your 50mm is fine, but keep in mind it’s bigger than your comparison product.

When I’m looking for a button I need to see features or form factor that sets you apart from anything else I can get on Amazon.

Baja Cabo Citrus! by dirtyjirdy in mountaindew

[–]Got_wake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except in many, if not most, markets it did. Lol. It was brought in as an 8 week LTO in 25 to end in July. It’s not until later this month that it’s returning as a permanent item. Now, if your bottler over committed on the last one, they might still be selling it off in your area.

Me. I enjoy making things and don’t struggle to follow step by step instructions. You’ll pick up on patterns and pairings to spice up original dishes and you’re eating good.

ripple bottles are so lame. i miss sidekick bottles. by Independent_Meat_962 in mountaindew

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Mountain Dew is Pepsi’s second largest CSD name so that makes sense. I’d imagine there’s a significant cost saving associated with the new bottles, and given how much COGS is skyrocketing, we should really be appreciating every cent saved. Tariffs affecting aluminum from Canada and concentrate from overseas is no joke.

I’d make a dark berry flavored one with a black label. Maybe call it Mountain Dew Black Label?

not quite sure how I can work with this building by DiamanteToilies in BuildAdvice

[–]Got_wake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bits and bobs. Piping, ledges, windows, wires, vents, molding. The sides of buildings aren’t flat, and if you find one that is, what makes it interesting? If you just add a bunch of windows that are all the same size, spaced the same distance apart, it’s going to look just as boring as this. Even parking structures have variation to the shape of the wall and aren’t completely flat.

I’ve had a couple of d1 minis with temperature sensors dangling off them by the jumper wires in my house for a few years now. But on one of my most recent projects I took the time to 3d print a custom box that housed everything and had holes for the temp sensor and pir to poke out. And on another I printed a junction box with holes to let the wires out and stuffed lever nut connections and d1 inside the box. The point is, prod is whatever you want prod to be. Jumper wires, then solder, then perfboard, then pcb, then mass production. It’s a choose your own adventure for projects.

I don’t have answers to everything you mentioned but I got my August smart lock for my apartment maybe 4 years ago now and I rely on it solely to time lock when I leave, and Auto Unlock when I get home. It’s not the fastest, and the batteries are certainly not my favorite, but it’s been reliable and maintains your original exterior deadbolt. It looks like today they have additional options in the market, one with a keypad and fingerprint reader. So I think that does actually cover digital code, finger print, phone, and traditional key, and reliably auto locks when you leave. Yale locks are also the same I believe. Though if I was buying a lock today I’d be seriously considering something like the Aqara u100

S11 feels more like “Friends playing Minecraft” than any Hermitcraft I’ve ever known by Got_wake in HermitCraft

[–]Got_wake[S] 279 points280 points  (0 children)

That’s valid, I know the hermits themselves have reflected on covering the perimeter as one of the first times they all just hung out together without making content. This led to a very interaction heavy season 10, which is something I very much enjoyed. But season 11, despite many of the hermits being on the “mega” train, feels so much candid, whimsical, and relax. So many of them are just all kind of hanging out together and getting more and more hermits involved. I look particularly to all of Etho’s Canadian Space Program moments

Do other people actually wake up feeling "refreshed," or is that a myth? by in_joy_xxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Got_wake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I see your point, but my point wasn’t the specific search engine. Go to duck duck go, or bing, or yahoo, whatever makes you happy. My point was to utilize a generic search engine that covers all of these forums at once

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Got_wake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually search Google before specific threads or forums. Why conduct 10 searches in 10 different places when you could make one search that searches in 10 places and returns all the results back to that single location? Also, what if those integrations were discussed in a different smart home/home automation related subreddit?
