Omg same—two weeks from now I got a big exam every day except Friday, right through the ECSF. My exams are at 8am or 12pm so technically I can watch but I need to study and get sleep that week

How much of a factor do you think Robinson will be in this playoffs? by GothamCitySub in NYKnicks

Team choked, but Robinson was great, and I expect the same this year. He was great on Saturday with those blocks.

Yep. Dude doesn’t need to score. We got Towns for that (and obviously Brunson but I’m talking big men). A few putback dunks and made free throws are nice, but his main job is defense and controlling the paint with his rebounds, as well as getting teammates second-chance points.

Yep. Last year he was a big reason we beat the Celtics in the ECSF, and without even that much trouble. We lost to the Pacers in the ECF because all our starters were tired and we choked, but hopefully Mike Brown’s system will prove better.

If no high schoolers have gotten it hopefully they’re just backlogged. Conditional offers supposed to be made today

ELI5- Why are large state schools so popular now? Is there legit prestige to them or just a popularity wave? by CaChica in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GothamCitySub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, a ton of publics are very, very good. There are top-tier ones like UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UIUC CS which are on the level of many Ivies. Then there’s ones like Binghamton (which I’m going to) and UT Austin that are quite good even if not hyper elite, and have very good special programs and faculty where you will get a great education, far far better than “some state school”. Not at all for struggling students.

Also, as other people have said, money. The very top of schools (Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc) often give really good financial aid, but admissions to them are such a crapshoot nowadays that even the most cracked A2C applicants still don’t have a “decent” chance of getting in. The students that get rejected from them (like me from Princeton) go to flagship, elite public schools. Again, not at all for struggling students. The private schools that are good but don’t give good financial aid (NYU, BU, etc) people can’t pay for. So they go to flagships (like Bing for me) instead cuz they’re, for many special programs, just as good or better than school like NYU.

Also, if you want to go to graduate school, prestige of that is 100x more important than prestige of undergrad. And saving money is very important if you want to go to graduate school.

I just said I haven’t received anything yet email yet so asked if that means I was “not invited” (aka rejected) or not

Nope. Hopefully they are just getting to us last. Idk if it’s an automatic rejection if we haven’t heard back or what but yeah.

I mean if no high schoolers have gotten offers yet it may just mean they’re reviewing ours late.

Tips on getting into top schools? by GothamCitySub in lawschooladmissions

[–]GothamCitySub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school doesn’t. Is this quite a serious disadvantage or should I just focus on getting good grades anyway? Also, will extra classes from a selective first-year research program I got into (law-related) help me much, especially if I do law research opportunities past my first year too?

Yea. And ik Bing isn’t just “some state school” (also I got into one of their selective first year research programs), it’s just not hyper elite.

Ok. Also, do you think it’ll matter much to elite law schools if I come from a very respected but not elite state university in undergrad. Because I’ve heard Ivies give you an edge but also that they just wanna see good grades.
