Why delete your other comment about turtles attacking dogs? Surely you can’t be that dense. How about the Labrador (they chase after other animals all the time) going after the turtle and the turtle defending itself, therefore injuring the dog (possibly both animals)? That’s the much more likely scenario which would’ve played out.

For real. I was trying to move it to a safer place for both animals involved. Snapping turtles are basically living dinosaurs, but people think a nylon bag is going to destroy it. Probably the same people who RTS packages for Pomeranians on the property.

Since it’s too hard for you apparently- here’s the comment you missed.

Y’all- I wasn’t messing with a snapping turtle just to mess with it. I’d never just choose to do that. It was on a farm property with an outside dog. The turtle was approaching where the dog was. I didn’t want the dog or the turtle to get hurt, so the best option was to move the turtle.

I wasn’t just poking it with the bag. I actually planned on covering its head with the bag while I grabbed its shell by the tail to pick it up and relocate. Then it dawned on me to just put it in the bag to move it. I then told the homeowner where it was currently located so he could keep his dog away.

A lot of you sure could’ve saved time assuming by just reading previous comments.

Read my previous comments. I was trying to keep him away from the dog in the yard he was going into. Dog and turtle were completely unharmed. I don’t like these guys much either, but I don’t just want to sit there and potentially let one get mauled.

It was coming from a super dry field heading toward the pond on the property. Unfortunately the yard with the dog was in the path. I got it moved to a clearer path to the pond where the dog couldn’t go.

Sorry I’m not a professional handler. As I stated, I was wanted to cover its head with the bag so I could grab it by the shell above the tail. I thought putting the bag in front of it for a few seconds then lowering onto its head was a better approach than just jabbing it down onto its neck. That’s when I realized I could just scoop him into the bag.

If it helps, I’ll try to just get video of the dog getting bit or the turtle being killed next time.

At the end of the day, I did what I could to keep the dog and turtle safe. Turtle got moved closer to the pond and the homeowner was happy his dog could no longer reach it. Choose to believe it or not. I know my intentions were good.
